I’ve been reluctant to post because there are some really cool garages/workshops out there that can only be described as works of art, and mine is not Amish built or custom built, but someone who has never built (me). I started out wanting a 40x40x14 garage and had a $20k budget. I quickly realized that 20k doesn’t buy nearly as much as it used to, so I had no choice but to downsize or find ways to keep it cheap. After a heated discussion with my wife, I decided to build the building myself and handle the concrete work. Besides, my wife thinks I’m stupid and is going to hire someone to catch me anyway. Over the course of four months, I studied everything I could about stilt construction and researched techniques for constructing several buildings similar to the one I was building. I started building the project in May, hoping to finish it in 2 months. The day my farms went up, I had a heart attack and was out for a few weeks. I am now nearing completion of the frame in August and hope to finish this work in October.

Thanks for the nice comment. I removed the cross braces from both end beams as they would be supported by the end wall frame. I think it will prevent the crossbar from bending over time and the weight of the snow, so I will leave it in the brackets for the other brackets. I want more space, but don’t want to risk the roof collapsing.
