8 By 12 Deck Plans – This step by step project is about ground level deck plans. If you’re looking for an ongoing project for your backyard, you should consider building a nice little deck to enjoy your morning coffee, or somewhere to read a good book. As you can see in this project, this simple build does not require any tools or complicated carpentry techniques, so anyone with basic skills can complete the project in a weekend.
Before starting construction, you should carefully review local building codes to see if a building permit is required and if there are any restrictions on your project. Choosing the right location for your deck is important, so make sure it gets enough light or adds character to your property. It’s also important to use weather-resistant materials, so at least buy pressure-treated wood. See all premium plans here.

Top Tip: Building a ground level deck is a great backyard project, especially if you want to add a small entertaining area to your property. This project does not require a large investment and you can complete the work yourself. You can build a deck around the house or in the middle of the garden surrounded by grass and flowers.

The first step in the project was to remove the concrete foundation. For professional and accurate results, we recommend using a dough board and string. Make sure that the corners are right angles using the 3-4-5 rule and make sure that the diagonals are equal.
Dig a hole 2-3′ deep, install the pipe shape, and add a 2-inch layer of gravel. After that, pour the concrete and fix the metal anchor according to the plan.
Continue the wooden project by installing the side beams 2 × 6. Place two beams on one side of the deck at ground level, and place a piece of 1/2 “plywood between them. After aligning the two ends of the beam with metal anchors, secure with suitable screws .
Top tip: Install other components and make sure they are perfectly level. Use a carpenter’s square to keep the four corners at right angles.

The next step in the project is to set up the center beam. As seen in the plans, you need to leave OC 16-inch between the joists to increase the rigidity of the frame.
Top tip: Make sure the corners are correct after installing each beam. Also, if you want to build a professional-looking ground level deck, be sure to align the 2×6 joists at both ends before installing the screws.
As shown in the picture, it is recommended to use rafter hooks to attach the beam to the frame. Also, use a good level to make sure the joists are straight.
Alternatively, you can drill pilot holes in the beach post mortise and drive 3 1/2-inch wood screws into the joist. However, the latter technique requires additional labor and finishing. If you connect the screw head, you can fill it with wood filler and get a smooth surface.

Straightforward and thorough deck installation with a level of support. If you buy a group board that is 12′ long, you do not need to cut anything (for 12 × 12 groups). Straighten the boards at both ends before drilling pilot holes and driving in 2 1/2-inch flathead screws.
Place nails between the slats to achieve a consistent gap. Using a circular saw, cut the chalk line before cutting the board to size.
It is not necessary to attach 2×2 cutters to the ends of the slats, but it certainly improves the look of the deck and hides the cut edges. Cut the end of the tee at a 45º angle for an easy fit. Add wood glue to the edges and secure in place. Insert 2 1/2″ finish nails to widen the joint.
Top Tip: You can also put 1×6 fascia over the curtain rod. Cut the ends of the fascia miter at 45º and attach with 1 1/4 inch nails and glue.

Last but not least, you need to take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, if necessary, it is recommended to fill the wood with filler and let it dry for several hours. Then Smooth the surface of the wood with medium sandpaper and remove the remaining residue.
Top tip: Protect the deck from rotting with several coats of satin or paint. Create a beautiful table with some chairs and enjoy the latest outdoor project.
