We’ve talked about light neutrals before, but it often takes a little more depth to create an impression that bleeds through a space’s natural tones. We’ve rounded up Benjamin Moore’s top 10 neutral midi; Moderate or neutral if you like, not too light or too dark! Here are ten options that are perfect for any space, whether it’s throughout the house or in one room.
Warmer than mid-range neutrals, HC-80 Bleeker Beige. While it could be considered a dark beige, it has a hint of gray to create a soft, subtle beige color. Works well with creams and whites, as well as warmer traditional colors like reds, olives and burnt oranges. It’s also a color that goes well with a mahogany background or teal furniture!
OC-15 Baby Fawn and HC-173 Edgecomb Gray are the same! This historic color, also found in egg whites, is deftly conveyed in both. This is one of the darkest shades of off-white you’ll find in the off-white section, but it retains the light and mid tones of the historic colors. In my opinion, truer than the name OC-15 Baby Fawn is the light pink hue you’d expect to see from a baby fawn! It is a universal gray color; The soft milky beige color creates a blend of warmth and intimacy. These factors make it a popular resale color.
The CC-490 Stone Fireplace is a slightly darker neutral color that leans slightly towards the beige side. That said, the direction of light and the amount of light in the space can greatly affect this color. In rooms facing north or east, you can paint a gray color, while rooms facing south or west will give a warm beige color. On the other hand, too much light will expose the depth of the midtones, as the color can become noticeably darker in low-light environments. This neutral midtone is the perfect backdrop for muted tones across the color spectrum because it doesn’t lean too far into a green or reddish hue.
The New Neutrals: My Favourite Neutral Paint Colours
For a long time, HC-172 Revere Pewter was Benjamin Moore’s most popular color! It is an unbiased and true experience. It’s the perfect combination of beige and gray to create a “gray color”. With a slight greenish undertone (if present), it blends well with traditional browns and warm tones, as well as warm grays. Combining different shades of this color, however, allows it to look gray in cooler lighting but gain warmth in warmer lighting.
Also part of white, this transitional green color has a lighter, grayer gamut than neutral colors. Also somewhat neutral in tone, it creates a versatile color throughout the home. It complements modern gray while maintaining a good balance with traditional dark brown furniture. It’s a cool, elegant shade of gray that looks flattering and refreshing in many spaces.
One of my favorite neutrals that falls under the green is CC-394 Blvd. It has a slight floral undertone with a touch of yellow, which makes for a smooth combination! This creamy gray goes well with other neutrals and bright colors. Whether her furniture or accessories are dark, light or even metallic, she creates different looks with elegance.
This trendy colorway is a mix between the heat of CC-394 Boulevard and the 2017 2112-50 Stormy Monday colorway. Derived from grayish brown, it mimics the warmth of brown but tends more towards gray. This balanced color is also a great medium neutral shade for a transitional style that perfectly blends browns and grays. This flat gray-purple color appears grayer in cool lighting and warmer in warm lighting, such as south or west facing areas.
The 9 Best Benjamin Moore Paint Colors
As part of the 2017 color trends, this medium gray is a clean, modern shade for an up-to-date style. A mixture of blue and red tones creates the impression of a grayish-purple color, but it is best combined with cold grays and dark browns. The mix of pattern and contrast brings this color to life, while similar neutral layers like white and light gray create a streamlined, elegant impression.
Stonington Gray is probably one of my favorite neutral colors. While it definitely falls into gray, it’s one of the most neutral and true colors Benjamin Moore has to offer! It’s a mix of shades of blue and green, which allows for a more natural gray than just a cool gray. While HC-169 Coventry Gray deserves a mention as a runner-up, it is definitely darker than Stonington Gray and generally doesn’t blend well in dimly lit rooms either. HC-170 Stonington Gray blends well with bright whites to create a modern look or warmer whites to tone down grays. Most importantly, it blends perfectly with charcoal ash like HC-168 Chelsea Gray or HC-166 Kendall Charcoal.
While this color can hardly be considered a neutral, the strong blue undertones of this color create a crisp, fresh gray that is all the rage right now. It goes well with contrasting bright colors and similar grays. It may work best to cool lighted areas facing south or west, while the same lower tier will provide brighter light for rooms facing north or east. It goes well with contrasting bright colors and similar grays.
