It’s great if you’re tight on space and fits well with other malm furniture as the drawers match the larger modules – it’s a bit taller than mine but looks great! It’s ideal for small clothes like underwear, because the drawers have the same high walls as other Malmö drawers, so things don’t fall off the back. It took me forever to put it together – I had a bad leg day – and a couple of the drawers are a bit sticky, but that’s up to me – most people will do it without a problem!

It looks like a cheaper version of the oak I’ve seen in the store. The top edge had a slight dent when opening the box. Too far back. Not my best purchase. Working with SMÅSTAD, we wanted to deeply understand the needs and challenges that families have when it comes to storing children’s things. So we visited and interviewed parents and children from all over the world, they told us about their morning rituals and showed us their closets.

We also looked at child development research and how storage issues are addressed in schools and preschools. Everywhere there was knowledge and experience that helped us in our work. One discovery we made was that daily routines and clothing choices easily lead to fights between adults and children. So how can a data storage solution help them organize and streamline their household routines? As a result, this became the basis of our work, and when the first prototypes were ready, we once again invited our specialists to praise or reject all ideas.

For most families, there is a powerful nut: a young child who wants to make up his own mind and an adult who thinks he knows better. Chances are, you’ve met a three-year-old who is convinced that birthday clothes are the perfect choice for a Monday morning. Being able to choose and have an overview of clothes is very important for the child’s development, but it will be easier if the choice is limited (and reasonable). That’s why the storage spaces in the SMÅSTAD wardrobe can be divided into several levels: on the top level, which you control, and below, a demanding three-year-old can access a slightly smaller range of options. We know it cheats them a bit, but it’s a good way to achieve the goal: the child can see his options long enough to make his own decisions.
