Behr Benjamin Moore Color Match – Whether the paint company has a computerized matching system or does it by eye, it’s rarely accurate. for what? Well, the main reason is that most paint companies use different bases.
Or does it have something written on it? Well, this is the base needed to create some depth of color. Base 1 to Base 4 are used to make white/light colors used for dark colors. The LRV of the paint color will be directly related to the base needed to create it. Paint companies often use different ingredients in their bases, so you shouldn’t be working with the same base when switching to another brand.

In the example above, while both swatches are still wet (I don’t mean literally wet yet, they’re definitely dry), you can see that Sherwin William’s version of Edgecombe Gray is much warmer than Benjamin Moore’s actual color. It’s not Sherwin Williams’ fault, it’s just not their paint color. However, they must inform customers that they cannot create a perfect match.
The Trick To Get Designer Paint Colors On The Cheap
Just look at the difference in shades! Benjamin Moore has more green in the match, which means if you have a south-facing room, it can look even greener. It might make Kermit the Frog happy, but I’m guessing you don’t want to eat flies or pig dates, which means you’ll want to get a bit more blue than Sherwin William’s custom-colored version.
And not only that, some companies use different COLORS or shades to make their colors, i.e. Benjamin Moore is black … black. Sherwin Williams black has a hint of blue.
For example, if you choose a popular Benjamin Moore paint like Stonington Gray, which is formulated with black, and do it with Sherwin Williams paint, you won’t get the perfect color because they will use different colors. Black crafting type.
All of the above are not good excuses for mixing colors unless you are okay with the color you want.

And of course EXPOSURE can also play a huge role, but that’s another blog post.

Hell, some paint companies struggle to make their paint colors look like #thingshatkeepmeupatnight. It’s true, as you go through the paint levels (for example: Benjamin Moore Regal to Benjamin Moore Ara) the recipe must be adjusted to suit the new base, as each paint line has its own base ingredients. Good paint technicians can almost get it right, but you still need to make sure you actually get the color you choose.
