Benjamin Moore Silver Gray Paint – Gigi asked me, “We currently have an unusual gray on the SW walls, but after three years it’s too green for me. I’m looking for a real silver gray…any suggestions ?”
One of my favorite shades of gray is Owl Grey. We used it upstairs in my daughter’s bedroom and playroom and I love it. The biggest reason? It’s a true gray color with no weird undertones. I was a little skeptical at first because when I tried a bunch of paint colors, Ovi Gray looked too BLUE.

When trying to choose paint colors (from this post), the Gray Owl was #2, and as you can see, it’s not very gray. I didn’t want anything blue so I was hesitant to use it, but I had already seen gray owls in some houses and it certainly wouldn’t be as blue as this pattern. I also knew that whenever I painted patterns directly on the wall, they ALWAYS looked different from the surrounding colors or the color of the wall. (Note to self: Always draw patterns on white card stock.)

Here are some pictures of my daughter’s room with the Steamer Grey. It is a perfect silver gray color that goes well with many different colors. This is the lightest color introduced so far and the LRV 74 comes with darker colours. I especially love white and dark grey/blue.
This is another favorite gray original color. Of the four colors I’m showing, this is the warmest, but it doesn’t look like beige or brown. It has an LRV value of – 58, which will add color to your room without being too big.
It has become one of Benjamin Moore’s favorite paint colors, and for good reason. The silver chain is a medium gray tone color from the LRV 56. The Silver Chain is also called Harbor Gray by Benjamin Moore, which you may be more familiar with.
Last but not least is Silverpointe by Sherwin-Williams. Silverpointe is right between Gray Repose and Gray Owl with an LRV value of 64. This makes it perfect for darker and smaller spaces. I have seen it in many bedrooms and bathrooms and it makes small rooms feel more open.

All four colors are combined in this poster. You can see that they are all a true silver gray with no weird undertones. Of course, lighting can change this, so it’s important to test it at home, but if you’re looking for a real “silver” gray, here are my recommendations.

If you still have every paint swatch at the hardware store memorized (I don’t blame you), let me break it down for you. Part of the Benjamin Moore Classic Collection, Silver Lake features 1,680 inspiring shades that stand the test of time. A light gray with a warm blue hue, Silver Lake strikes a healthy balance between sophistication and expression.
And after a few weeks of living with Silver Lake walls, I think this is the best neutral option. In fact, I squealed with excitement when I took pictures of the new paint job before moving.
One of the biggest problems with the white walls in my previous flat was that they showed all the scratches and fingerprints. (Trust me, I’ve spent more time cleaning the walls than I care to admit.) Even though I’ve only been in my house for a few weeks, Silver Lake does a great job of hiding any cracks or defects in the wall. Instead of spending a lot of time cleaning the walls, I feel like I can sit back, relax and enjoy the view.

But what I love most about Silver Lake is how great it looks in my home. Because it’s more subtle than typical white walls, it adds some warmth to my space and contrasts well with the white molding and built-ins.
But unlike some colors that can dominate a space, Silver Lake doesn’t detract from my decor. In fact, I’ve found that light gray looks great with cool colors, warm tones, and yes, other neutrals. And no matter the time, Silver Lake makes the atmosphere light, airy and very dreamy.
Although I was initially disappointed that I couldn’t paint the walls, my disappointment quickly turned to excitement. If it were up to me, I’d probably choose a similar shade. As it turns out, I got the walls of my dreams – and all this without samples and watching how the paint dries.

Silver Satin is a warm grey, not as warm as its cousin Classic Grey, but a good choice if you’re looking for a more subtle approach (Silver Satin is also slightly lighter than Classic Grey).
If you have a north-facing room, Silver Satin rests on its gray heels; wait for it to get colder. Under the southern sun or a hot western day, it switches to a warmer gear, without the beige color.
Silver satin has an LRV of 74.9, which is the beginning of the white range. If you have a SUPER bright room or a lot of walls exposed to natural light, it will wash out a bit, but any color that doesn’t have good depth (for example, LRV -55).
The Perfect Gray Paint
Be careful with silver satin in a dark room, as the higher LRV and obvious lack of saturation (color) can make it a bit dull.
We’re willing to bet our POPULATION: every shade of gray has its shades. However, silver satin is a very delicate shade with a slight purple tinge, which rarely fades to green (the lesser the color, the more likely it will be picked up by others).

Strange, no. As cabinetry trends veer towards soft whites and off-whites, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Silver Satin make an appearance. However, I would recommend either going white for DRUG or a shade with a little more purpose/depth – The silver satin on the cabinets is too subtle for this cowgirl.
