Revere Pewter, also known as 973 Ice Formations, is one of Benjamin Moore’s best-selling paint colors. According to Benjamin Moore, it’s “an iconic neutral that provides a versatile bridge between warm and cool tones.” This indicates that it works with different colors.

It’s a neutral gray color that works equally well on walls, ceilings, cabinets and trim from room to room. And it’s called “the perfect color for the whole house” because it’s great for open spaces.

Although it has probably been the best-selling paint of all paint colors for over 15 years, Revere Pewter is still popular. It’s part of the historic Benjamin Moore collection, featuring classic, timeless colors that are safe to use in any era. So no, it’s not old.

Revere Pewter has a light reflectance value of 55.05, meaning it is a mid-tone color. Not too dark, not too light.

It is on the cooler side of the color spectrum and looks best in west and south rooms. But it’s a beautiful, classic color that can easily be used anywhere in your home.

Pewter Color Paints: The Best Pewter Colors Compared

Along with its cool appearance, colors that match Revere Pewter should also have cool undertones. I studied all my Benjamin Moore color samples in different lighting situations and chose 2 different color palettes, which you can find at the end of this post.

Always test paint colors before you buy. I use and recommend Samples Peel and Stick paint swatches because they paint over two coats of actual color with no problem!

Don’t let the name fool you. Mount Rainier Gray is a mix of ice blue and cool gray, and the blue definitely pops on a large wall surface. It’s medium toned (not super light, not super dark) and looks beautiful in any room. LRV59.48

Slightly cooler than gray Mt. Rainier, a plum gray, is also a mid-tone color. As you can see from the picture below, it goes well with the couch, which is a darker version of Revere Pewter.

Province Blue is a medium green blue color with gray undertones that puts it on the cooler side of the spectrum. It is a great complementary or accent color to Revere Pewter. Great places to use it are in the bathroom, laundry room, accent cabinet or closets as shown below.

Tranquility is a light blue with a mix of sage and grey. And it’s a great complementary color to Revere Pewter, as an accent wall or in an adjoining room. It has cool undertones and is similar in color to Revere Pewter. You can use this color in bedroom, bathroom, laundry room or office.

Edgecombe Gray is the next lightest shade of Revere Pewter in the Benjamin Moore color palette. Also known as 972 Alaskan Skies and OC-15 Baby Fawn, this is one of the best-selling neutral colors year after year. It can be the color of the whole house as it is versatile.

1521 Also known as Nature’s Essentials, Natural Creme is about half a shade lighter than Revere Pewter. According to Benjamin Moore, it is “a light gray that favors warm and cool color schemes.” It has slightly more yellow undertones than Revere Pewter, but looks like a lighter version when used in the next room.

The lighting in each room is different and in most cases the same color looks different in adjacent rooms. How is that?

Seapearl is white with cool gray undertones. Also known as China White, it has been a popular Benjamin Moore color for decades. It’s lighter than Edgecombe Gray or Natural Cream, so it’s perfect for a room that doesn’t get much natural light.

Ashley Gray basically has the same shades as Revere Pewter but darker. Also known as Waynesboro Taupe 1544 and Shenandoah Taupe AC-36. And it has a slight hint of purple undertones in some lights, similar to Revere Pewter.

Revere is slightly darker than pewter, making it good for an accent wall or adjoining room. This sophisticated bedroom is draped in pashmina. I love the contrast of the white bedding.

Vapor is a clean, soft white with warm neutral undertones. It blends well with Revere Pewter and is not as obvious as other whites.

Silver Satin Revere is a classic off white with a slight hint of lavender, similar to pewter. Revere can be used with pewter as a finish color if you want a more subtle contrast than a whiter tone. This is one of Benjamin Moore’s best-selling paint colors. Choosing between two shades of gray is similar to choosing between two blue jeans. Although the differences are easily detectable in bright light, this may not be the case when there is less light in the room, obviously both remain gray and may appear almost the same color in low light situations.
