Valspar offers custom colors, so it’s a good brand to choose if you need a very specific color or shade match.

Chalk Paint Obsession

I was surprised by the wide range of colors that Krylon offers, especially when it comes to light neutrals and whites. I have never seen a brand that offers so many color choices.

When it comes to neutrals and whites, a slight difference in shade or undertone can make a big difference. Having a large selection available is extremely helpful!

My favorite colors in this collection are Bay Waves (fourth row, first column), Ibis White (second row, third column), and Pale Bloom (bottom row, last column). However, the beauty of this collection is not in any particular color but in the variety of colors to choose from for your project.

What Is Chalk Paint?

Like the Valspar collection, the Waverly chalk paint line has little going for it. There aren’t many colors to choose from, and of the ones you have, there aren’t very good choices.

The four colors on the left stood out to me as good choices for simple orange, blue, red-orange, and red. They have an unusual feel that I love. In general, however, I would not recommend this collection.

I love the Dixie Belle color combination. It’s full of beautiful colors, but these six are my favourites.

These colors are bright and bold, but not too much. They are very pigmented without the exaggeration that the new colors are.

The olive tones of the folk art collection are absolutely beautiful. They are beautiful chalk paint colors for furniture. They have an old world feel that really shows up when disturbed.

The Rustoleum chalk paint line is very limited. The colors on the right represent each of them. Although the selection is limited, it is very popular.

Personally, I don’t like any of these colors, but if you like one, this is a good brand to buy. Rust-Oleum makes a high quality product.

Unfortunately, spray chalk paint is still somewhat new, and there aren’t a ton of colors available yet. However, brands like Krylon and Rust-Oleum have chalk aerosol paint in popular colors.

I tried Valspar on several pieces of furniture. One of those little tables we got for free many years ago. We bought a sofa set off Craig’s List and when my husband went to pick it up the guy asked if we wanted a table because he was getting rid of it anyway.

The chart was still a bit blurry but I wasn’t motivated enough to change it. After finishing my hutch, I was inspired to transform this little table.

Krylon Chalk Paint Video Review

I chose Sunday Bustle because I liked the color on the back of my jacket and I *thought* it looked similar.

I created a chalk paint color in my hutch mixing Annie Sloan Florence and Auburn Blue. Let’s just say I was WAY off, when I thought Sunday Bustle was the same way. I have to go with the sapphire bracelet!

Sunday Bustle turned out to be more Caribbean blue, which is nice, but not what I was going with the table. (see blue library)

The Valspar Chalk Color went on smoothly and was well covered. I didn’t sand the board, just dried it and cleaned up any sticky residue left by the kids. Sanding is a deal breaker for my chalk paint projects, so I’m glad the Valspar went easy and held the wood together.
