Benjamin Moore Taupe Gray Colors – Week two is my One Room Challenge nursery design and I’m working on a paint color that I chose because it really sets the tone and color palette of the room. In week 1 I shared some inspiration for a girl’s nursery with colors that aren’t the white, light and bright colors you’d expect from a nursery, but colors that are a bit more subtle but still pretty. Part of this was why I was also thinking about wallpaper, but even with an accent wall, it would be too expensive. So I wanted a wall color that would stand alone, make a statement, not boring but still neutral. This meant that I didn’t want the usual grey, white or beige, but a more subtle color that was still warm. So I started looking for these Benjamin Moore colors in the taupe and warm gray categories.
I really liked that they weren’t obvious colors like gray or white. It looks like it can be gray, beige, pink, mocha or all of the above depending on the lighting or what you do with it. Of these, I limited myself to testing three color swatches: BM Hampshire Tape (990), Stone Heart (984), and Smokey Hat (983). (

It was very useful if I painted them on the wall, because the lack of natural light in the room changed their appearance. As soon as I put them on, I realized that I was taking a risk with these colors. I am also planning to paint the ceiling! I felt that the top of the rock (in the middle) would be too dark. I was debating between Smokey Taupe (right) and Hampshire Taupe (left) and ended up going with Hampshire Taupe because it had a richer, more pink color to it, which made it look more like purple. I thought it was perfect for a girl’s nursery! I chose BM Simply White (OC-117) for the trim and doors because it’s a classic warm white that goes with almost anything.

Here are some progress shots of the painting. We started painting the ceiling, which was not easy. Ceilings are 9′. The second photo is taken in front of the bedroom door. I think I was nervous at the time. It looked too purple which I didn’t want and kind of dark! But I was committed to all the colors I bought and my husband convinced me to go ahead and finish the job.
It took us a long week to prepare the room, paint the walls, ceiling and all the trim and doors. It was over 100 degrees in the Bay Area over the weekend, which is not normal and didn’t make it any easier. If you want to learn for yourself some of the pros and cons of the painting room, check out these posts: The Truth About Painting Part 1 and The Truth About Painting Part 2
Here’s a nursery that just has Benjamin Moore Hampshire hats painted on the walls and ceiling! The finish is BM Bus White. As you can see, lighting really affects the appearance of colors in a room.
At first I thought it might be too purple, but as it dried, the more I looked at it, the more I liked it! It is a dark pink shade. It has a calming effect and makes you feel relaxed and sleepy, perfect for baby! It’s a subtle baby color, but I love that it’s interesting, unique, feminine and yet very neutral. What color do you think?!

When it comes to the most popular dark gray, gray and taupe paint colors, Benjamin Moore is the top dog among all grays and holds its own with grays. But Brown’s world is missing both Sharon Williams and Benjamin Moore. why? Let’s talk a little…
When it comes to greens and tops, there will always be a bottom. Like taxes, death and empty wine bottles are inevitable.
Best Taupe Paint Colors According To Homeowners
Sandwiched between gray and beige is a beautiful color called gray. Some are gray in color, which makes them a bit cooler, while others lean towards warm beige, which makes them warmer. In terms of undertones, gray prefers the color green and rarely shines purple.
With a MINIMAL shade the shade is a little easier to find in the bright area. But when you get to the dark end of things, they tend to take on a bit more green, meaning there are fewer colors that cut through because they’re often more “green” than “neutral.” are
Like gray, the type is somewhere between brown and beige and can be warm or cool depending on the mood. But unlike red, which tends toward green, type has a purple hue (sometimes purple-pink) and rarely shines green.
Even in the light range, the tape does not hide under it for those who are sensitive to purple and pink. As the black color gets darker, you will see it become more purple and brown.

I love Kingsport Gray MADLY. why? Well, as for Benjamin Moore, it has a minimal undertone, to the point where I can almost call it a neutral brown! But it can be a little green because of the lack of duties. why? You ask a lot of questions – I like that about you. The less a color is set to a certain undertone, the more likely it is to shift to another depending on exposure, environment, sensitivity, etc.
Now you’re wondering about the DARKER looking Fairview Taupe on the fan deck above the Kingsport Green. While it may be taupe in name and it’s definitely a bit mauve underneath, it also tones down the beautiful beige to the point where it loses all the green-beige look and looks more brown. This is what we talked about before, how black colors often take on a lot of brown and/or purple as they get darker.
No, we’re not talking about my morning breath, we’re talking about dragon’s breath (the same, really). Dragon’s breath is a very dark gray color with a beautiful green undertone. Now, if you’ve also researched Sharon Williams’ Crocs, this may sound very familiar—and it should. Dragon’s Breath is the cheerful cousin of Sherwin Williams Urbana Bronze, but Dragon’s Breath is a little warmer and greener.
Dragon’s Breath has an LRV of 7, making it a SUPER dark solution perfect for exteriors, front doors, cabinets and even walls.
The Best Beige, Greige, Taupe & Gray Paint Colours: Benjamin Moore Affinity
I often mention Dragon’s Breath in my consultation, unless the client just describes the Benjamin Moore color. why? I find that Arbin Bronze is a bit more sophisticated in its approach while getting the point across (unlike mine, which is never subtle, I should add).
Stardust is a beautiful tape with just a hint of warm earthy undertones. With LRV 23, Stardust is a subtle, rich warm without going down in brown.
And while Sherwin Williams is usually my go-to for darker tips, Stardust actually looks more neutral (with significantly less undertones) than most of my favorite Sherwin Williams tips.

Rockport Gray is a very popular gray color. Not only is the LRV 35 versatile for walls, cabinets, and outdoors, but its green color is so subtle that some people won’t even know it’s there!
No doubt you’ll be picking up some paint samples in the near future – hang in there! I want you to check SAMPLIZE. The sampler offers peel and stick paint samples that are more effective, lighter and more environmentally friendly than traditional paint containers. Here are just a few reasons why I recommend the sample to my clients…
Although Taos Taupe is definitely a taupe due to its purple undertones, it can easily be mistaken for a warm gray with less heat. But compare it to a real hot capital like Benjamin Moore’s Metropolis and you’ll see the difference.
Taos Taupe is similar to Stardust with an LRV of 42, it adds great depth to many different surfaces without being washed out or overly visible.
