Best Exterior Paint Colors For Lake House – Beach style lake house designed by Stellar Homes in collaboration with Martha O’Hara Interiors located on Lake Virginia, Minnesota. What makes this home so special is its peaceful and tranquil setting, surrounded by nature and evoking coastal aesthetics. The interior design scheme usually consists of light colors, such as wall decorations or accent colors and built-in cabinets.

Vaulted ceilings in the living room keep the space bright and airy, while floor-to-ceiling windows provide its occupants with a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The open floor plan of the living room, dining room and kitchen makes it easy to entertain family and friends in style. I am here to help you and guide you every step of the way in choosing the right color combination for the exterior of your home. I’ll make it easy for you, I promise!

The number one painting question I’ve received over the years is about choosing exterior paint colors because it’s one of the hardest painting decisions you can make for your home. You want your home to have beautiful curb appeal and you don’t want to make color mistakes. If you follow my seven steps below, I promise you’ll avoid common mistakes and make great exterior paint color decisions! Stay with me on this one!

The first thing you’ll want to do when deciding what color to paint your home’s exterior is to choose a color shade. When I say “shade”, do you want a light, medium or dark color on the body of your house? At this point, you don’t have to think about anything other than deciding whether you want a light or white color, a medium tone or a medium shade, and whether you want a dark color.

For most of you, choosing a shade is an easy decision right now, and you’ll know right away whether you want a light or dark home. However, some of you may be unsure and open to any nuance and need a little help making that decision. To figure out which shade will look best in your home, it can help to look to Pinterest for outdoor home inspiration. For example, if you have a farmhouse style home, search for “farmhouse exterior” on Pinterest to see a variety of color options for inspiration.

Before proceeding with your color decision, you should consider the color of your roof. If you have black or neutral gray, you don’t have to worry too much about clashing colors. Unfortunately, I have dark brown undertones with slight red undertones, so shades of green or blue don’t work for me and can clash. For those of you who have a roof with red, brown, green or blue-gray in the shingles, you should definitely consider the color of your roof when choosing an exterior paint color palette.

If you’re like me and have a dark brown roof with red accents, you’ll want to stick with a true neutral main body color to be safe for your home. If you have green or blue-gray shingles, you have a little more freedom, and if you choose a color that is neutral or has a slight hint of your shingles color, you can avoid a color clash if you don’t struggle with matching and supplement it. When you have a black roof, you can do anything.

If your house is made of stone or brick, you should also consider the strong foundation found in your brick or stone. If your house is brick you will need to choose a finish color, I would match a light, medium or dark color found in the stone/brick and use that as the finish color.

Things Nobody Tells You About Painting The Exterior Of Your House

If your home is not full brick/stone, half brick/brick, or has brick/stone accents, you have more wiggle room with color choices for the exterior of your home’s body color. As long as your body color has a very slight hint of brick/stone color, you shouldn’t have a problem with clashing. For example, if your brick has a warm undertone and you want the color of your house to be gray, choose a light warm gray instead of a cool gray. In this way, the warmth in the gray connects/matches the new body color with the brick. Does that make sense?

Then, once you’ve considered the roof color and decided on a shade, unlike choosing interior colors, you need to consider the effect of light on exterior paint colors. I will save you a lot of time by telling you that daylight/sunlight will make your exterior color cool/blue. It may sound crazy, but you need to go at least 2-3 times warmer than your exterior color to get a consistent color that won’t be too cool or blue. Let me show you what I mean.

When it came time to paint the outside of our outdoor pool kitchen, I had to choose a color 3 times warmer than I wanted. I wanted a final color that looked like Sherwin Williams “On the Rocks”, but with the abundance of light affecting the colors of the exterior paint, I had to choose a color 3 times warmer to compensate for the color.
