Later in the day, a dark basement with a wooden ceiling, an orange carpet and a musty smell makes many owners feel warm. Today, homeowners are more focused on light, new and updated when it comes to basements, family rooms and dark spaces.
Best Wall Colors For Dark Rooms
In our last house, we weren’t worried about furniture or anything when we bought it, but the family room was definitely a bright and welcoming space.
What Color Should I Paint A Dark Room In My Home?
Well, you can certainly try to make the dark room bright with bright colors, but if you don’t have enough interior lighting – it won’t work. What is the reason? Oh, I wish I had a chance to say this…
You can have a dark room that looks “light, bright and fresh” with good lighting and bright colors, but you need the right furniture to support it visually, or it will look dark.
If you don’t have good/interesting products, accessories or textures to add personality and color to your walls, you risk disappearing – but
Use dark paint colors to add personality to a dark room – even if the room doesn’t look bright
The Best Dark Paint Colors
This also works well if you don’t have the best furniture, as your wall color can be the only “visual support and interest” you have in your room.
Above you can see how dark the background is, but the reason it looks so good is because it has a bad color!
However, for those of you who say – ‘Bob, I’ll take this behind door #1’ (I’m dating), the most important thing to remember is that you need good lighting! Light colors (or any color, really) will look flat in a room that doesn’t have enough natural and/or artificial light to support it. So, if you don’t have pots or ceiling lights, invest in some floor and table lamps with white or white shades to increase the volume!
Whether you want to paint all the walls in the same color or you prefer to put your wall light on the wall for a killer look, this should be perfect for you!

Cream has a nice soft warmth without turning into a nasty yellow. If you take a quieter approach, you risk looking like dirt and grime if your lighting isn’t bright enough.
Silver marlin has enough COLOR to help with the lack of light, while some grays are flat and deep. Note the lack of artificial or natural light in this basement, but the color of the paint is still suitable for the party (it will live with more light). While it’s not a SUPER bright color, it’s a happy medium between light and dark.
While the dining room of this house (next door) has good lighting, it is not too bright and you can see the beautiful Silver Marlin.

If you like Silver Marlin, you may also like SW Comfort Gray or SW Rainwashed, but remember, they don’t necessarily brighten up your deep space.
Tidewater looks gorgeous in this next dining room. And if this room is considered bright, if like my client you like to lower the blinds, then it is a great example of a dark room with a beautiful color on the walls.
Navajo White is a light cream color. Any cream color will have a yellow base, and this is no exception, but the yellow tones to moderate tones.
Dove White is actually white (almost white) and has a warmth that is tempered with a neutral base to tone it down.
Basement Paint Colors For A Brighter Space
I like Dove White because it has warmth, without too much yellow coming out (yellow is definitely one of the least favorite of my e-design clients).
Don’t forget, CONTRAST is a great way to add interest to a dark room, as shown in the landing of the stairs as well as the bathroom vanity (see the whole house HERE).
Sure, you’ll be going there to get a paint sample in the near future – hang in there! I want you to review SAMPLIZE. Samplize offers peel and stick paint samples that are cheaper, easier and more environmentally friendly than traditional paints. These are just a few reasons why I recommend Samplice to my clients…
I admit, I always worry about putting the gray paint color in a dark room, because without light it can look dull and dirty. White Ballet is the closest I can get to greige (and don’t get your hopes up, it’s not greige). This is a cream with a blue-gray color that calms down, softens and softens and loses the “cream” that can be seen in some of the above colors. In this way, the NODS goes to greige, without taking over.

While it might seem like a good idea to get a dark room and choose the brightest white you can find, it’s actually not the best move.
Bright white is bright because it reflects natural light. So if there is not enough natural light, white will not help open up the room as you think. Instead, your room can look flat and often even dark. When considering white, a good rule of thumb is that if you need to turn on the light during the day, there is not enough light to do the job.
If white is not on the table for a dark room, what are you looking for? The answer is usually medium-hot. These colors are your best bet for brightening up a dark room. A neutral tone is appropriate, because if it is too dark, the room will look small.
Dark rooms also need more colors because less light is reflected through the colors. This means that you should look for a color that is less dark than the base. Also remember not to use bright colors in a dark room – you have to actually see the bright colors to make them light.
How To Make A Dark Space Feel Brighter
The type of room you are looking at can also make a difference. For example, you will treat a dark bedroom differently than the hallway. In powder rooms without windows, you can use a bold look, because people are not
