Brick House Paint Colors Exterior – If your home’s exterior is brick, Benjamin Moore Cloud White is not the right finish color. But here are some finish colors that work well with brick exteriors.
As a reminder, this is not my first post on the best exterior trim colors NOT Cloud White.
Brick House Paint Colors Exterior
BM Cloud White may not be the right white for any home exterior, and certainly not for brick houses. As with all beautiful homes in Toronto
Best Painted Brick Houses Of 2022
An off-white finish like Cloud White would be really perfect on this gray painted brick house (above) because gray and white work so well together. But in general, if your brick is rusty or low (and unpainted), white will look too bright.
I love the black trim with the orange brick, but not without a healthy dose of other bright details – otherwise it looks too harsh and starts to look too Halloween.
However, the charcoal-finish housing above, BM Kendall Charcoal HC-166, is softer than the all-black paint and casings of the housing below:
If the mortar on the brick house was contrasting and light, the all-black coating would look better.
Best Front Door Colors
And here’s another house with white details that are too stark for a house (shown below). The house, while beautiful, would look even better with a cream finish like Benjamin Moore Lancaster Whitish HC-174 or Ashwood OC-47 instead of off-white.
Here is a brick exterior with aubergine border (BM Super Nova CC-990). Since I took these pictures without fan tires, these colors are my best guess.
If you look closely, this window treatment has a pink tint. I’m showing this because it’s pink brick, so it actually works. A gray brown like BM Kingsport Gray HC-86 or BM Fairview Taupe HC-85 would also look good as a trim color on this brick house.
Overall, I prefer the green trim over the blue trim with the orange bricks. Green usually looks better and greener. Here is a good comparison of 2 different greens. The one on the right (BM Cushing Green HC-125) is bluer than the one on the left.
How To Paint The Exterior Of A Brick House
This sage green color (BM High Park CC-620) looks like an 80s color. But it works in a city full of brick houses. When it’s the only color in an office or residential building like the Rogers Building in downtown Toronto, it screams “I was built in 1985.”
If your home’s exterior brick isn’t rust or red, consider existing brick tones when choosing a trim color, as is the case with this home (above).
This house is obviously not brick, but I took a picture because it was so beautiful and apparently very popular at the time, stark white exterior with black windows. Is this new trend coming to your area?
If your home is mostly brick, what color do you have? I would also love to know how you chose the trim color! We are big fans of brick color. But natural brick also looks great with the right color for trim, siding and underlayment. We share inspiring exterior brick and color combinations of painted and unpainted brick colors. These designs have won the hearts of our designers and customers.

Painting brick can feel intimidating. This can help you visualize the new color in your home before implementing it. These Benjamin Moore classics are two of our favorite whites. In fact, we named Benjamin Moore’s Seapearl our exterior color of the year. A sea pearl with an LRV of 77.95 is almost white in color. Simply White has an LRV of 91.7, so it’s brighter. (Learn what LRV is and why it’s important, especially when using white paint.) Although these similar colors create a monochromatic color scheme, their different hues create a subtle contrast. Simply White (decoratively painted here) provides a warm glow that both attracts and contrasts the gray tones of Seapearl (painted on brick).
Sherwin Williams Alabaster is such a great choice for brick. This paint color varies in different textures, making it an excellent choice for a variety of home exterior materials. Our designers used alabaster in the masonry, trim and paneling shown in the house above. When going this route, we suggest adding some dimension and depth with accents in a darker color like Sherwin Williams Tricorn Black. Tricorn Black was used on the garage door and front door above. Alabaster is not stark white and Tricorn Black is not stark black, so it is not a stark black and white checkerboard combination. This combination of brick and paint colors is modern and adds unusual drama.
This warm, earthy combination of brick and paint colors gives the house’s facade a sense of harmony. These colors complement each other rather than as a contrast. The Olympic Mountains take center stage in the brickwork, Sandy Hook Gray adorns the baseboards and fixtures, and Simply White completes the look by accenting the upholstery.
Painted Brick: Exterior And Interior
Brick houses covered with orange clay tiles look very fresh and modern when the brick is painted beige or white. Such a unique roof should be the focus of the exterior design, and red brick can compete with it. One of our designer beiges is Benjamin Moore’s Grant Beige. In this example, Sherwin Williams Urbane Bronze accents add depth and fill the gap between the lighter beige and rich color of the roof tiles. (Urbane Bronze is one of Sherwin Williams’ top exterior colors for 2021, mostly because of its versatility.) Pro tip: Bronze or copper gutters and downspouts look phenomenal with a clay and beige tile roof.
#5 // ROMABIO Classico Limewash with Benjamin Moore and Iron Mountain and Sherwin Williams Natural Choice and tumblers
If you have never worked with unpainted brick, you have the opportunity to try limewash. This beautiful effect gives the house an old, historic feel, with traces of brick still visible. In the house above, our designer suggested ROMABIO Classico limewash. Warm color tones complement the warm brick. And this house has many beautiful architectural elements that can be highlighted with color. Here, designer Sherwin Williams recommended Iron Mountain accents by Benjamin Moore and Natural Choice and Corpopoise.
It sounds like you don’t need our permission, but as you can see from our recommendations, we often recommend using both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore paint in the same design! Both brands work well when painted over properly prepared brick. Sea pearl looks especially beautiful in brick because the front bricks look bone white and the cracks between the bricks look grey, giving it an inner dimension. In this home, painting all non-brick siding in Iron Ore by Sherwin Williams and painting the trim and accents in Onyx by Benjamin Moore creates a rich, deep contrast and accentuates the pearl gray.
Painting A Brick House
If you keep your red brick natural, gray can give it a polished look. This is one of the best brick and color combinations in our book. In fact, many bricks naturally have gray and beige flecks of stone, and the mortar often looks gray from a distance. Painting your upholstery in Sandy Hook Gray by Benjamin Moore will bring out these tones.
Mixed materials with little color do not act as competitors, but as colleagues. This home has additions of brick, siding, and natural stone, all nice materials, but the color palette made them look a little large. In this case, the right color combinations of brick and paint can make a big difference. By painting the neutral brick in Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter, our designers let the stone’s natural details shine through. Iron Mountain on the siding adds dimension to the home – notice how much smoother the earlier facade is compared to the later facade? – and brings out the gray and blue in the stone. The onyx color of the shutter provides contrast.
Does this color combination sound familiar? It’s the same triple as number 8, but it looks distinctly different when combined with the bare brick. Revere Pewter, Iron Mountain and Onyx are three neutral materials that work well together. These paint colors help define the home’s architectural features without feeling too busy, even with a high-contrast red brick and light mortar.
Pale brick or glue wash is not for everyone. If you want to update your brick with a fresh white, alabaster is a great choice. Warm shades of beige go well with natural wood. This combination, along with black Marvin windows, completely modernizes the look of this home.
