They were our neighbors for the 22 years we lived in PA. They came to this house from the previous neighborhood a few years before we moved to Lake Murray, South Carolina.

They didn’t stop at just changing the look of the house. He also combined the open and free yard to create a small farm with a barn and other paths…

We Bought A Fixer Upper
He painted all the brick white, added a metal roof and overhangs, vertical clapboards, new doors and light fixtures.
Here’s a look at the 1970s brick house they turned into their dream home over the course of a few years. Red/orange brick, red roof and rusty/red shutters.
Debbie and Martin painted the house white and the shutters black, but also added a metal roof and a pergola. The driveway was paved with stones and a white fence bordered garden was created with flowers, herbs and vegetables for harvesting.
Gardening is one of Debbie’s passions. The opportunity for a green thumb can be seen at every turn, as there are colorful flowers everywhere.

After seeing the beautiful color, he couldn’t resist! Our goal was to draw everyone’s eye up the circular staircase to the updated front door. Sometimes wood is the best choice; In this model, however, we chose a rich black door to enhance the iron railings and lighting.

Millie’s Remodel: Revealing The Ugly Ranch To Mid Century Modern Dream House
When a friend of mine from college called and said he had a ranch-style home in downtown Jenks that he thought we should look at, we jumped in the truck to go there. When we arrived at the large lot surrounded by a ranch-style house, I knew I wanted it. When Mike Miller saw the peach walls, the floral wallpaper – the high ceilings, I might add – and the enclosed kitchen with dark cabinets and a low ceiling, he was a little more convinced. Yes, and the house was a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom house that Mike thought would be hard to sell.
As we passed the house, my friend explained that the daughter of the original owner sold it after he died. The same person built and owned this house for over half a century. He raised his family and created thousands of memories within those walls. When we left, we decided to buy it and renovate it. Little did we know at the time, however, that while we were renovating this house, we would meet our 90-year-old neighbor Dorothy, who was the best friend of the original owner, and fall completely in love. With the story of this house. We enjoyed listening to Dorothy’s memories of sitting on the back porch drinking coffee and with her friends at the kitchen table. After meeting Dorothy, we really fell in love with this house and neighborhood and felt proud to be a part of this story…
I realized that every house has a story. And what an honor to receive it. A part of this story that knows the memories born within its walls and was able to prepare it for a new family, the lovely newlywed couple who bought this house, is full of memories to last a lifetime.

Brick Ranch House
In this beautiful ranch style home originally built in the 1950’s. I didn’t want it
If you know what I mean. Do not get me wrong. I like the color white. My whole house is painted white brick.
But the beauty of this house is that because of the size of the exterior, I thought it could do with something more dramatic and whimsical. I knew I wanted to use navy blue throughout the exterior and pair it with cedar siding and accents. I really liked how it turned out.

Before & After — Rochman Design
HGTV came on board to film the pilot in the early stages of the project. Mike and I enjoyed the excitement of “demo day” as the film crew cheered us on! Unfortunately they decided to stop filming and I had already knocked down the whole wall! I literally sat at home for a year before Mike finally let me work on a larger scale design. This was a blessing in disguise because otherwise we wouldn’t have breached the wall. It looks amazing and opened up the house completely. Thanks HGTV!
Here’s a dramatic before and after of how we transformed this kitchen from a dark, enclosed kitchen with a drop ceiling and old wallpaper to a gorgeous open kitchen with a large island, open shelving and lots of wow. I understand!
