Farrow And Ball Paint Colour – Choosing paint colors during renovation/decoration is probably one of the most exciting elements to implement. But it can also be one of the hardest if you’re hesitant like me. Walls are a fairly basic part of your room/house and the color on them can really change the whole mood and mood of the whole apartment, not to mention things like the look of the room or how it will not complement the other colors/furniture or flow from other rooms. You’ll live with them, and while they can of course be changed with a new can and brush, it’s not something you want to repeat, so it’s best to try it the first time. But it can be so hard when you have a blank canvas in front of you. Or in our case, choosing colors for a new kitchen before we even built the space. There are so many factors to consider, so today I’d like to share some tips I learned during the road repair and afternoon with Farrow & Ball last week.

For me, Farrow & Ball really is the best color in the world. It’s not about the brand, it’s about the fact that their colors are heavily pigmented, giving you the most depth of quality and color you can buy. Their colors are really beautiful, thought out over the years and carefully selected. They have a specific look, you can spot a room painted with Farrow & Ball paint before you even ask about the color. I’m not paid to say this, my husband and I used their colors long before I had an Instagram account/blog. From the Vert de Terre shed in my husband’s house we first shared, to the Charleston Gray kitchen in our London flat, to the Green Smoke front door from our last home, it’s been a long-lasting romance. So when it came to decorating this new house, I turned to the F&B color charts.

1. When starting a project, I will always refer to the color swatch from which I choose color swatches. Even though the suits on the cards are small, you can start to get an idea of which testers you want to choose for further investigation. I usually have an idea in my head of what color I’m looking for, but not a specific shade, so I look at the different color-coded lines by reading the descriptions on the back. For each color, I then look at the Farrow & Ball site, where you can see pictures of other people painted in that shade, as well as what the experts themselves recommend to match.

2. One of the most important things to think about is the room you are going to decorate. Is it bright with high ceilings? Is it small and cozy? Is it to the north? This aspect is very important for natural light, because with Farrow & Ball paints, especially with high pigmentation, the color can look very different in different parts of the house, but also on different walls in the same room! So even if you think you’ve found the perfect color online based on pictures, color swatches, or descriptions, I’ve done it many times. When you actually buy the tester and test it at home, it may look completely different.

For example, when I chose gray for our master bedroom, the gray in the color swatch that I thought was ideal and that I had seen in other people’s houses on Pinterest looked too brown and beige for our very light, south-facing room. The only light gray that works for us is Blackened, but I know a lot of people find it too blue and Ammonite works better for them. I also thought Dimpse would be perfect for our kitchen, but testing in the back of the house was too blue.

3. I always buy test pots for this reason. When I started I painted them on bare plaster or painted walls, but over time I learned that it’s best to paint them on scraps of paper to get a lot more surface area but also to have a lot more movement or add pinning of different walls. It was especially helpful in choosing paint colors for our new kitchen, which was not built at the time. We also had to choose the colors of the island, units and walls so everyone could sit together with the paper and see what worked and what didn’t. We took the painted papers to the bathroom to finally decide which room would be directly above the new kitchen and look the same.

4. Look at the color in both morning and evening light, as well as under artificial light. And think about what else you want in the room. Will you have a light or dark floor? Do you want to introduce a neutral color as a background to complement the other colors through artwork, furniture or accessories such as cushions etc.? Or maybe you want to make a statement?

5. Apply a layer of paint. You won’t see the true color until you’ve applied at least two coats, so do this with test pots as well.

4. Farrow & Ball published a book last year called How to Decorate, which I bought and was very helpful in talking about decorating in general, not just specific paint colors. It gives a lot of inspiration, but also reminds me of a recipe book, where you write what with what, if you have a problem with colors or have many rooms to decorate at once, I definitely recommend it.

Last week I was invited to a Farrow & Ball afternoon tea in Chelsea with the famous Joa of Joa’s White. Joa is the original color consultant who developed most of the colors for Farrow & Ball, so I was very excited to take her advice on all things decorating. I learned so much and wanted to share some of the most interesting things she said;

Do you have a favorite or trusted color selection method? Maybe you are much more determined than me and it is easy? Do you like bold colors or play it safe with neutrals? I am very boring and I prefer neutrals that are easy to live with and that are calmed down by adding color to the accessories. Even though we have a cozy dining room painted Downpipe, I look forward to using and behaving in it.
