Most Popular Living Room Colors 2021 – It’s well known that your emotional state is inextricably linked to your environment, so after a challenging 2020 it’s no wonder everyone’s calmer as we enter 2021. Accordingly, designers and color experts predict a return to warm, neutral palettes that include grays and beiges and soft whites. Here are some shades you can definitely see in 2021.
Sharon Graubard, founder and creative director of trend forecasting service Mintmoda, believes home design is now more about convenience and less about perfection. “Living indoors allows us to see the light change throughout the day,” he says. “Paint colors fluctuate, shades like Aegean teal [

Leatrice Eisman, director of the Eisman Center for Color Information and Training, identifies a trend toward neutrals paired with 2021 Pantone Colors of the Year — illuminating, ultimate gray brights. “Many people have been using gray in their living rooms for the past few seasons, and it’s time to add some fresh mood boosters that beautifully accent the more subdued colors,” she says.
A-list interior designer Juan Montoya has a penchant for tried-and-true neutrals like Ferro and Balls Matchstick. He also likes elegant green brands like Verdigris Green and Sap Green.
“I’m not sure if it’s a trend, but I personally lean more toward neutrals than I have in a long time, and I think clients do,” says New York designer Bella Mancini. Murry Farrow and Ball’s old white and clunk highlighting walls.
Neutral grays are generally used as universal shades to balance any color paired with them. “Pearl ocher — like Sherwin-Williams’ mellow, they call it — is beautiful, not too yellow, ‘like the walls in a Vermeer painting,’” Graybard predicts, an option that will dominate homes. “These colors are fun without being obtrusive, and they’re neutral enough to match surrounding materials like concrete or stained wood floors,” she says. Green, gray and navy are the most popular living room colors in 2022. New research from Swift Home has found that we’re making bolder choices in our living spaces with lighter, richer colors and some unexpected hues.
Living Room Colour Schemes
Unsurprisingly, the ever-popular gray came second, while three shades of versatile blue made the list. Classic creams and whites proved to be less popular in 2022 in favor of cheerful pinks and yellows.
“Green is the color of 2022 and the most sought-after color in living rooms,” says Ben White, design and business expert at Swift Home. “The growing popularity of green in fashion and interiors was predicted before 2021, as trends in general began to lean more towards natural looks. I think the growth of green interiors is related to people wanting to bring the outdoors indoors.”
“Combining textures to create an interesting interior is key this year. We’re very confident in how velvets and weaves combine – plush chenille scatters on airy linen sofas add great depth to any room.”
The most popular living room color in 2022 is green, which is a great decor inspired by nature. “Some savvy decorators subtly mix green and natural tones with plants, wood and terracotta in their interiors,” says Ben. “Others opt for a more dramatic green look by combining green walls with green velvet chairs, sofas and accessories.”

“Grey is an incredibly versatile color that makes the perfect base to expand your palette,” says Kelly Collins, interior designer and creative director at Swift Home. “Colors with cool undertones (blue and other grays) will complement gray well, while colors with warm undertones (terracotta or burgundy) will contrast the shade and add a touch of warmth to the space.”
Different shades of blue appeared three times on the list, with deep, inky navy being the most popular. “Remember that muted blues complement a variety of colors and create a calm mood. If you want to create drama in a space, go for a deep, rich blue. For a fresh, vibrant space, try lighter blues,” says Kelly.
Greenish blue tones provide a little more warmth than medium or light blue, and can be enhanced with burnt orange or red. Because it pairs well with traditional woods like mahogany or walnut, teal is a great choice if you want to decorate with antiques.
“The popularity of blue interiors probably has to do with people wanting to bring more hints of the natural world into their homes,” Bain says. “Blue is a calming and peaceful color, perfect for deep thought and introspection. Since many of us work from home a lot, it’s a great color scheme for focusing.”
Living Room Paint Ideas To Transform Your Space With Colour
Despite being one of the boldest design decisions, the black living room has proven to be more popular than classic white or cream in 2022. Decorating with black requires a little more care than other colors, and we always like to use matte black – it leans towards graphite grey, or a soft blue tint.
A very popular color for parents and pet owners, but it’s hard to beat in a country living room. White can feel stark or stark, so tone it down by introducing warming elements like plain, painted wood and luxurious off-white rugs.
Surprisingly, pinks require a keen designer’s eye to avoid an unpleasantly sweet effect. Deep berry shades of chalk and pink work well on walls – primary pink can be overwhelming – and add sophisticated touches like tweed or textured wool sofas and patterned rugs.
Classic Cream came in at number nine, perhaps indicating a move away from neutrality. Cream doesn’t have to be obvious, but if you only consider it as a base on which you can create a more colorful palette – cream goes with almost everything, so there’s no need to worry.

A delightful and deceptively diverse selection of top ten. Choosing the right color for your living room can seem like a daunting task, and you shouldn’t get it wrong. After all, other than the kitchen, most of us spend a lot of time in this one room!
If you’re starting from scratch when decorating your living room, it’s easy to choose a paint color and arrange your furniture around it.
But if you’re repainting an already furnished and decorated room, it’s important to consider the elements that will work with your new paint color.
Best Basement Paint Colors
For any room, it’s important to first understand how exposure affects paint colors. If you have a north-facing room, the light can be gray and blue, which will bring out unwanted undertones from your chosen color.
South-facing rooms are flooded with bright sunlight, so warm colors can be very warm. Morning light is better in east-facing rooms, but afternoon light is worse, and vice-versa in west-facing rooms.
Once you know where your windows are, consider your furniture, flooring, and other elements in the room.
For example, if you have a dark blue sofa, you don’t need bright yellow walls. If your couch is a beautiful shade of brown, you’ll want a similar color that coordinates well.
