I’m still learning a lot about the colors right now (truly, the learning never ends), but I wanted to share with you my four favorite light gray colors when I first introduced this paint line on my blog…
This is probably my favorite gray in the Valspar range. Notre Dame is the perfect depth – not too light, not too dark and has very little noticeable undertone, it’s just a soft, soft, cool gray with just a tiny hint of cool green. Not cold and icy, but cold undertones.
Gravity is a beautiful shade of gray with soft purple undertones and is definitely the freshest. A warm violet can attract to the pink side, a cool violet can attract to the blue side – this is the difficult one. Compare this bad boy to Notre Dame and you’ll see that pop shade. Tempered Gray is a cool gray with a subtle stone look (not stones…stone) which gives it a slightly more neutral look compared to the fresh and clean look of Gravity.

I like it (but really, why doesn’t anyone? Filtered Shade is a nice light gray with a slightly warm feel (not brilliant). Of the 4, it is the most “pretty” with a bit of femininity. And an UBER subtle purple/brown undertone.
And I would appreciate it if you could keep your love affair with Valspar a secret. Ben and Sherm can be sensitive about these things, so I’m keeping quiet for now. Just kidding – they don’t even know I exist (like most of my adult girlfriends) and I get nothing for pushing their brand – I just love them!

It’s not the most drastic change, but it sure improves the view from our window! I can’t believe we’ve been living with that horrible fence for years (do your usual photoshop to hide behind the neighbor’s house). We used Sherwin Williams’ Barnwood plank color (the color our painters used) but with Valspar paint. Did you know SW has Valspar? I think this paint brand is simply a favorite and everyone has their favorite. And any color can usually be combined with other paint colors. However, I always use Valspar and have shared my favorite colors of gray, white and black paint.
All the colors are gorgeous and I absolutely love the names! I think it will be fun to name the paint color. I’m a little partial to the Frappe because I love my coffee iced, but this one is pretty too. Gray color, like any other color, will change throughout the day. Sometimes it looks more gray and others beige. But that’s the fun part of choosing the best color for your home.
As with any paint color, the best way to choose a paint color is to get paint samples and test them in different areas of the room at different times. And remember, how a color looks online won’t be the same in someone’s home, swatch, and store. Get the pattern! I really like the Valspar color. I also like Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams, but Valspar has the best color range in my opinion.
They have the best selection of hard to find greens and yellows. Combined with their National Trust Historic Colours, the overall color palette is perfect for the home. Let’s take a look at some of my favorites.

When choosing a color for your home, it’s one thing to like the color, but is it easy to buy?
I know that when I created the Benjamin Moore Coastal Color palette, it was a challenge for many people to get the colors because Benjamin Moore stores are far and few between. This is a weakness.
Another reason this color palette will be popular is that you can get the same color at your local Lowe’s, which is only 7 miles away from most homes. Convenience is paramount. These colors can also be found in any paint fan kit, I just organized the palette for you so you can imagine how it will look.
On the holistic side, if someone in the family suffers from depression, ADHD, ADD or autism, there are certain colors that you may want to avoid or that can really help. Color is energizing for those who need it, and calming for those who lack it.

Like all my color palettes, this one is available for $100. Don’t say “Oh I can go to the paint store and get it for free” because it’s not as easy as you think. When you print the colors (the colors are now reversed) and match them in the store (the colors change again depending on how the machine is calibrated) and even try to find a qualified colorist to help you. Find out today) God knows what color palette you will have when you’re done. I know I used to work in the paint department at Lowe’s and that’s not very accurate. In addition, if you need more paint that matches the color, the chances of getting close to the original again are slim.
