Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray Cabinets – Long gone are the days when the only acceptable color for kitchen cabinets was white or off-white. Gray is now a staple in the kitchen and I’m here for it! Here are my favorite colors for gray kitchen cabinets.
Gray (and now gray) paint colors are always a must for kitchens. While they look great on walls, they can also make a big visual impact on your kitchen cabinets!

These neutral cabinet colors are great, and you can use them to make a bold statement (example: taupe kitchen cabinets) or let other decorative items take center stage (example: light gray kitchen cabinets).

If you are painting kitchen cabinets and looking for the right shade, have you considered gray kitchen cabinets?
Ready to take your kitchen from blah to va-va-woom? No need to buy a new tank. It is very time consuming and expensive. Instead, update your existing cabinets with a paint “facelift” to quickly (and affordably) transform your kitchen into a dream space!
With so many options, choosing one can seem overwhelming, so I’ve done the heavy lifting for you.
Here are our favorite and true gray kitchen cabinets in one post so you can see how amazing they look.
The Most Popular Cabinet Paint Colors
Mindful Gray is a warm gray that oscillates between the appearance of gray and taupe. It has an LRV of 48, so it’s not too light or too dark, which is one of the many reasons I included it on my list of favorite cabinet colors.
It has green undertones that make this color appear taupe at times. While it’s important to keep this in mind, you can consider Mindful Gray as a beautiful, bold enough, and great overall accent color (which is why it looks so beautiful on cabinets!).
As this color is in the middle of the LRV range, Mindful Gray combines lighter colors like Alabaster and Pearly White with darker, moody colors like Iron Ore and Naval.
This large 2 cabinet girls kitchen shines with thoughtful gray cabinets! The room has bright lighting that brings out the warm qualities of this color.
Quick Paint Colour Review: Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray 7044
It contrasts well with both light and dark colors. Fits perfectly with traditional, transitional, farmhouse and other home styles.
It’s a color that has the rare ability to look both beautiful and soothing, depending on where you use it. How many colors can you say the same thing about?
Note: Mindful Gray can look different in different situations, so be sure to test it in your home with a sample before you commit!
Mindful Gray is beautiful in many places. However, it is not completely suitable everywhere. If you want something bright, timeless or a little more balanced, look no further than Edgecombe Grey!
How Much Does It Cost To Paint Kitchen Cabinets
With an LRV of 63.88, this color finds the sweet spot between light and medium, and its balanced undertones make it look warm and creamy. It’s dark enough to compare to white in a bright room, but it won’t read in a dimly lit room.
I want you to know that Edgecombe Gray has pale pink and green tones that sometimes appear. They’re not obvious, but they’re present enough to help this shade stand out when paired with Saybrook Sage or Kendall Charcoal.
This stunning kitchen transformation by Kelly Nan shows how warm and creamy Edgecombe gray can look. If you have a cold room, try using warm natural colors to make it brighter and warmer.
If you’re craving a taupe (which can be a little gray), Kendall Charcoal is my favorite shade. With 12.96 LRV and subtle green undertones, this look gives you a deep, earthy mood that will look amazing in a bright room.
The Pros & Cons Of Off White/light Depth Painted Cabinets (part 1)
One design element that has gained traction over the past few years is kitchens with two-tone cabinets. There are several ways to do this, but the most popular are painting the upper cabinets lighter and the lower cabinets darker, or painting the island a different color.
Kendall Charcoal is a great color for low cabinets or a kitchen island. It blends well with white, white, as well as light brown. So if you have oak floors, consider using this shade in your kitchen. This kitchen from Mia Mia Mine shows just a small part of the range that Kendall Charcoal can extend.
Repose Gray is my go-to mid-range, warm, understated gray that looks great with just about anything. With shades of 58’s LRV and beige, they’re light, bright and popular for good reason. With Repos Grey, your kitchen will look anything but hum!
Can you imagine a better color than ribose brown in these tanks? I can’t, so this is one of the five shades on the list.
Uncertain Gray Vanity
This rock star shade manages to bring marble counters, brass pulls, wood accents and dark wood floors from finding lovely to a cohesive design in this kitchen.
Looking for something dark but not too dark? If you want a color as rich and subtle as Kendall Charcoal, go for Dorian Grey. An LRV of 39 means this warm gray will be a bold focal point for your kitchen.
Although Dorian Gray is a warm gray, it can be cool in the right lighting. This kitchen of nomadic vintage has plenty of natural light, making this shade more neutral than warm. But stone counters complement it perfectly to create a kitchen with a modern look.
“Fifty Shades of Grey” (haha) might sound like a lot, but I’m sure there are more shades than that because of the dramatic color changes that tone can produce. That’s why I’ve created a handy checklist of tried-and-true shades that look universally flattering.

Gray is a great neutral color choice. If you want to add some color to your closet while staying light, bright and neutral, gray is a great choice. Here are my favorite gray paint colors for cabinets!
Whether you’re designing a kitchen or a bathroom, cabinet color is one thing that can instantly define a space. Fortunately, it is easy and cheap to replace.
If you’re looking for a neutral with a little color – gray makes a great cabin color!
The first is choosing a color family. Congratulations — if you’re here, it looks like you chose brown 🙂

Then think about the colors within that family. Do you prefer something lighter or darker? Brighter or more muted? What tone do you want?
Next, you’ll want to get coating samples. I recommend buying at least three color samples if you want to paint the walls. Paint them in at least three different places on your walls.
You want to make sure the test stations are near anything that won’t change, such as trim, carpet, floors or cabinets.
Now, let it dry (do two coats if necessary) and then look at it over a period of at least two days. Look at morning, noon and evening light. Turn on the lights and turn off the lights to see it.
The Best Colors For Gray Kitchen Cabinets
Look at the elements of your room in advance – usually it’s the flooring, the color of the trim, or the furniture you want to use. They usually feel hot or cold. Try to stay within the same family for the most consistent look and feel.
There are many options for gray cabinet colors. Here are some – in fact – with examples of what they look like in real life.
Repose Gray is a very light, slightly warm gray color. You can see how light and bright it is in the kitchen photo below.
