If you’ve been around for a while, you know that I’m a big fan of painting interior walls white. We started changing the walls when we were still in our old house because I realized somewhere along the way that our colorful pictures and decorations would look better against a white wall.

Timeless Paint Colors

So when we moved into our new house and decided to take all the photos before moving in, it was easy to decide that we wanted all white walls, at least at first. . Choosing a color can be overwhelming before moving into a house, so while I think we could paint a room or two a different color, white seems to be the best choice. This is the best way to start any room.

But then the big question came up: “What white wall color should we use?” The decision was a little difficult considering we wanted to use our current color (Holy White by Sherwin-Williams). Holy White is not white at all (more beige). Therefore, we wanted to choose white for the walls to highlight the different colors of the skin.

Gray and white interior colors are very popular right now and I wanted to try them out because 1) I think they’re cute and 2) we’d save a lot of money if we avoided repainting all the trim and doors.

So we tried a few different whites to match our decor and narrowed it down to Sherwin-Williams Alabaster and Sherwin-Williams Pure White. Bílá Bílá won and we are very happy about it. Keep reading to learn more about this near-perfect white!

White White is Sherwin-Williams’ most popular white for a reason. If you read my review of the Sherwin-Williams Alabaster color, you might be surprised that I didn’t choose it for our current home. Honestly, I’m surprised! I told my husband over and over that I felt alabaster was the best choice. But we tried alabaster and pure white based on the color of the goat and the alabaster looked too yellow. That’s when I realized the perfection of pure white. It’s a little cooler than alabaster, but the crisp white is still nice and soft.

Sherwin-Williams’ Pure White has absolutely no sheer tint (more on that later). But it’s still creamy and soft enough to feel happy rather than cold or cold. It’s still a warm white, but I don’t see any of the bright yellow tones you sometimes see in alabaster.

You can see examples of alabaster (above) and pure white (below) that we’ve tried in different areas of our home in the photos below. While the difference isn’t huge, you can see that Alabaster is warmer/yellower than SW Pure White, but it doesn’t read the same. You can also see that all whites look slightly different under lighting conditions.

If you haven’t heard of the term “undertone,” I’m going to discuss it in this in-depth guide on how to choose colors for your home. Simply put, hue is the part of a color that you “can’t see.”

Best Sherwin Williams Gray Paint Colors

If you’ve ever wondered “Is Sherwin Williams a warm white or a cool white?” you’ve really thought about his voice.

There is almost zero tint to pure white, although there is some yellow and a hint of black in the scales. The yellow adds some warmth to the pure white so it doesn’t feel too cold. There is no doubt that pure white is far from white (pure white is ugly in my opinion). The gray balances it out and prevents it from looking too yellow. I think the hint of black/grey is what really differentiates pure white from Sherwin Williams Alabaster.

But what does it mean when you see pure white on a wall, for example? What you’re looking at is a bright, timeless white that’s richer and more attractive than Factory White or compared to Sherwin Williams Extra White.

One thing people often don’t consider when choosing a paint color is light intensity ratio (LRV). A pure white has an LRV of 84 – the brightest, purest white has an LRV of 100. In other words, the LRV of white is very high. This means more light is reflected back into the room. This makes it a great choice for any room you want to appear bright and airy.

Below you can see the pure white look in our bonus room (the north facing room). Due to the reflection of natural light, in a north-facing room you will see pure white, which is the closest thing to pure white.

Our living room is also a north-facing room. But be aware that it will look a little different depending on the time of day the photo was taken and the angle from which it was taken. Kind of crazy, right? That’s why it’s so important to follow my tips for choosing a color for your home before making any decisions!

South-facing rooms seem to have constant bright light throughout the day. Pure white may convey a sense of warmth in a south-facing room. This is certainly the case for my south-facing home office. But I still feel that Bai Bai is not very warm in my office.

Our kitchen is an interior room that receives light from the south. The fact that it provides some natural light to show off the pure white light levels (more on that later) is so important in this space, especially on the dark cabinets that I painted myself, and this is the easiest DIY stain method .

Most Popular Sherwin Williams Paint Colors

Wondering how Sherwin-Williams Pure White stacks up against some of the most popular white walls and off-whites? I’ve got you covered!

Note: The photos below were taken using the brightest white I could find to give you the most accurate representation of color. However, please note that the colors you see will vary depending on the configuration of the device you are viewing this article on. This is another reason why it’s so important to test paint colors in your own home before choosing one!

You’ll see what I mean, Pure White is more neutral than SW Alabaster and less intense than SW Extra White. If you look at the pure white next to the white poster board I’ve taped the painting image on, you’ll see there’s a lot less than “true white”.

Greek villas are definitely warmer than pure white. Snowbound, on the other hand, is grayer and slightly lighter than pure white.

That’s why it’s easy to see that when I say pure white, I still mean a nice, soft white, not a “real” white. When you compare this to a highly reflective white, you’ll see that pure white is weaker. The highly reflective white has more of a blue tint which makes it cooler and looks really cool indoors (in my opinion).

Benjamin Moore White Dovee is similar to pure white, but warmer. I would say the warmth of Benjamin Moore White Lupe is somewhere between alabaster and pure white.

Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee is more yellow than Sherwin-Williams Flat White Coffee. Swiss coffee is warmer than Southwestern Alabaster coffee. Flat white coffee has an LRV of 84, which is slightly higher than Swiss coffee’s 81.90. You can read my full Benjamin Moore Swiss Coffee review (spoiler alert, my favorite is the cult white coffee).

As I mentioned earlier in this post, Sherwin-Williams Pure White has a subtle warm undertone that prevents fading. You can complement it with warm wood colors and rich fabrics to create a cozy, welcoming space, but it also pairs well with cool colors and materials. Compared to Benjamin Moore’s The White Dove.
