Shades Of Green (as Seen On Home Town!)
Sherwin Williams’ Olympic range is deep forest green, dark and dramatic. It works well with both modern and rustic homes, and made our list of the 13 best Sherwin Williams for 2022. Here it is used alongside Benjamin Moore’s Black Forest Green on the home side.
Rounding out Benjamin Moore’s best exterior colors for 2022, Black Forest Green is a dark, sophisticated and, of course, dark shade of green. We especially love the weight and warmth of this beautiful green. In this rendering, the light color on the porch steps and columns creates a contrast to the dark foundation of the house.
We can’t get enough of Sherwin Williams’ Dry Smoke. This sophisticated shade features khaki and gray hues that look great when paired with wood accents like the front and garage doors in the home design shown above.
Sussex Green Benjamin Moore is another top choice of exterior home colors for 2022. This warm, deep green is subtle and blends well with the natural surroundings. We especially love this shade when paired with natural accents in modern homes.
Exterior Color Inspiration
In the design above, the James Hardie Neighborhood Park siding—a mid-level green—brings off the white design elements. We also love how it contrasts with the brick foundation and wooden door.
Benjamin Moore’s Aegean Olive is a dream shade for earth tone lovers. This brownish-green shade is deep and warm, making a beautiful outdoor field color, as shown in this design.
We always recommend choosing and testing paint colors. Factors such as the natural light, tones and lighting elements of your property will affect how the color will look. James Hardy paneling in Summer Sage is stunning in this home. The earth tone does a wonderful job of softening the harsh corners of the house and helps blend in with the woods. The contrast of Benjamin Moore’s Revere Pewter on the brick base is striking yet inspired by nature.
Front Door Colors That Make A Statement
Benjamin Moore’s Sage Mountain is an elegant earth tone, perfect for homeowners looking for a timeless look. This warm and cozy exterior uses shades of wood and copper accents on a brick farmhouse. A black, black roof and front door provide contrast in the form of Benjamin Moore black-painted shutters.
If an all-green exterior seems too much for your taste, consider a sophisticated neutral color with green undertones, such as Anonymous by Sherwin Williams. This warm, earthy shade works well in a variety of color schemes and on all types of surfaces, including siding, brick and stucco. Here, it’s used in the stucco on the upper level of the house, and on the lower level brick by Sherwin Williams’ Shoji Bell.
Benjamin Moore’s Deep Creek is another neutral with a green tone. This medium brown shade has a modern feel, depth and personality. As shown above, our designers combined it with black trim and natural wood and stone accents.

The first thing to do when deciding what color to paint the exterior of your house is to choose a color shade. When you say shade, do you want a light, medium or dark color on your body? At this point, you don’t have to think about anything other than deciding whether you want a light or white color, a medium tone or a medium shade, or whether you want a black color.
For most of you, choosing a shade is an easy decision and you immediately know whether you want a light or dark colored home. However, some of you are skeptical and open to any shade and need help making this decision. If you search for house exteriors on Pinterest, this will help you, for example, to determine which shade will look best on your house. Before you go any further in deciding on colors, you need to consider the color of your roof. If it’s black or a neutral gray, you don’t have to worry so much about color clashing. Unfortunately, I have a dark brown roof with a hint of red, so colors like green or blue wouldn’t work for me and would clash. For those of you with red, tan, green or blue-gray roofs, you should definitely consider the roof color when choosing an exterior paint color palette.
If you’re like me and have a dark brown shingle roof with a hint of red, you’ll want to stick with a neutral base color just to be safe. If you have green or blue-gray undertones, you have some leeway and choose a neutral color with just a hint of shingle color in it to blend in and compliment, rather than creating a color clash. . struggle If you have a black roof, you can do anything.
If your home is made of stone or brick, you should also consider the loud noises found in the brick or stone. If your house is solid brick and you only have to choose a trim color, I would go with the lightest, medium or darkest color found in the stone/brick and use that as the accent color.
If your home is not brick/stone and is half stone/brick or has brick/stone accents, you have a lot of room to work with color options for the exterior body color of your home. As long as your skin tone is a slight shade of brick/stone tone, you shouldn’t have any issues with breakouts. For example, if the brick has a warm tone and you want the color of the house to be gray, choose a warm light gray instead of a cool gray. So the heat from the gray will bind/add to the new brick body color. Does it make sense?
