Trending Colors For Living Rooms – Green, gray and taupe are the most popular colors for the living room in 2022. New research from Swyft Home has revealed that we are making bolder choices in our living spaces, embracing bright, rich hues as well as more unexpected colors.
Unsurprisingly, the popular gray came in second and three shades of the universal blue appeared on the list. Classic cream and white are less popular in 2022 in favor of more cheerful pinks and yellows.
Trending Colors For Living Rooms
“Green is the color of 2022, taking the top spot as the most requested living room color,” says Ben White, design and merchandising expert at Swyft Home. “Green is expected to gain popularity in the fashion and interior worlds as early as 2021, as trends in general begin to shift more towards a natural look.” I think the growth of green interiors is because more and more people want to bring the outdoors into their homes.

“Combining textures will be the key to creating an interesting interior this year.” We’re much more confident in how we combine velvets and weaves – chenille velvet on breathable linen sofas adds great depth to any room.
The ultimate nature-inspired decor, green is the hottest living room color in 2022. “Some interior designers are subtly blending green and natural tones in their interiors with plants, wood, and terracotta,” says Ben. “Others go for a more dramatic green look by pairing green walls with green velvet chairs, sofas and accessories.
“Grey is an incredibly versatile color that provides the perfect base to expand your palette,” says Kelly Collins, interior designer and creative director at Swyft Home. “Cool-toned colors (blues and other grays) will complement gray well, while warm-toned colors (terracotta or burgundy) will contrast the shade and bring a touch of warmth to the space.”
Different shades of blue appeared on the list three times, with deep navy proving to be the most popular. “Remember that muted blue complements a wide range of colors and creates a calmer mood. To create drama in the space, choose a deeper, richer blue. To create a fresh, energetic space, try shades bright blues,” says Kelly.

Green-toned blouses exude a bit more warmth than medium or light blues, an effect that can be even more pronounced when using burnt orange or shades of red. Teal is an especially good choice if you tend to decorate with antiques, as it pairs well with traditional woods like mahogany or walnut.
“The popularity of blue interiors is likely due to people wanting to bring more hints of the natural world into their homes,” says Ben. “Blue is a soothing and peaceful color, perfect for deep reflection and introspection. With many of us working from home more these days, this makes it a great color to focus on.”
Although black living rooms are one of the bolder design choices, in 2022 black living rooms are proving more popular than classic white or cream. Decorating with black takes a little more attention than other colors, and we’ll always lean towards a matte black – one that leans towards graphite gray or mixed with a softer blue.
A color frowned upon by parents and pet owners, but hard to beat in a rustic living room. White can feel stark or too pristine, so tone it down by introducing warming elements like plain and stained wood and a plush white rug.

Either way, pink requires a savvy designer’s eye to avoid a sickly result. Chalk and dark pinks work best on walls – primary pink can be gorgeous – and add sophisticated touches like a tweed or textured wool sofa and a patterned rug.
Classic cream was in ninth place, perhaps indicating a departure from neutrals. Of course, the cream doesn’t have to be simple, but if you only consider it as a base to create a more colorful palette, the cream goes with almost everything, so there’s no need to be careful. .
The funniest pick in the top 10 and deceptively versatile. Cooler shades of yellow with hints of green have a fresh, citrusy look, while natural materials, such as the wooden furniture, stone fireplace and wool rug pictured here, keep this living room from getting too natural. . When we often talk about seasonal trends and ideas, the rooms at the top of the list are the kitchen and the bedroom. While this is understandable, as most of us tend to spend most of our time either in the open social kitchen in the living room or in the bedroom, the living space itself seems to be neglected. The living room is a place where neutral colors often dominate, and homeowners try to avoid colors that are too bright as they tend to alienate people. But a modern living space is also the perfect place to try out new seasonal colors in small dabs before fully embracing them.
2021 brings a whole new range of colors to the show, colors that deviate from the usual range of cream, beige, white and blue. There’s definitely still a hint of blue somewhere, and you also have the warmest neutral of the decade appearing in a darker avatar. But this year’s summer colors look fresh, vibrant and even add a touch of sophistication when used correctly. Enter and discover the best ideas using the most popular colors of the season –
