“Linda and I built a house in Florida in 2002, selling our home in Catskill, NY. Florida, but we missed the mountain when we started exploring the Blue Ridge of North Carolina (similar to the Catskills). Found a beautiful mountain community in western North Carolina. I did not know much about wooden houses. I asked the wooden house council for information. Our mailbox started receiving information from other house lock companies. Then we were excited and focused on building a mountain villa. Meet Steve Whalen, builder of Custom Homes of Asheville. By Steve and the package we received from Honest Abe Darlene Dawson dealer of “Bear’s Den Log Homes”. We contacted Darlene from the beginning. We started to get comfortable with both Darlene and Steve over the phone. Visiting a mountain community known as Grandview Peaks to make decisions and make many purchases, we met Steve and Darlene, among other builders. After meeting everyone and seeing their work, my wife Linda and I felt comfortable with Darlene and Steve. I signed the contract the next day.
Darlene and Steve formed a great team and built our beautiful wooden house. From the first day of design planning to the last nail cut. The couple is still online and working on every detail to finish our house. We received a lot of praise from the hosts. Construction workers and friends in the beautiful wooden house we have now.
