What Exterior Paint Color Goes Best With Red Brick – Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and the color red can be seen almost everywhere. While you are surrounded by this vibrant color, I thought it would be a good time to ask you to think about the color red. What comes to mind?
This color has more personal associations than any other, but two are the most common. Red evokes love, romance and passion: a heart or a sexy woman in a red dress on Valentine’s Day. However, red is associated with fast cars, aggressive behavior and anger, which is evident in the expression “seeing red”.

So how did the same color come to represent two seemingly very different strong emotions? This is because the color red is interesting by nature. It boosts energy and increases your blood pressure, breathing, heart rate and pulse. Love and anger produce similar physical reactions. Love can make your heart beat a little faster and your palms sweat. Anger also raises your blood pressure and heart rate, but for a different reason.
The Best Feng Shui Colors For An East Facing Front Door
Love, anger and the color red cause very similar changes in our body and signal that you need to react. This makes red an element that draws attention on an emotional level in addition to being a bright and attractive color.
Red can be the perfect color for your exterior. It works especially well as an accent color. Apply red to areas you want to draw attention to, such as the front door or the shutters of your home. It can also be a good main color, but take the time to find it.
With colors ranging from traditional barn red to vibrant watermelon, there’s a wide range to choose from. Here are some of my favorite red colors for your home exterior.
Benjamin Moore’s Cottage Red PM-15 was the color I recommended to last year’s Shake It Up Color Contest winner when she wanted to transform her beautiful cottage from a faded pink to a barn red. Take a look at the difference this color makes in adding charm and presence to a home, and you’ll see why cottage red is on the list of the best red colors for home exteriors. If you prefer stain instead of paint, use Sharon Williams SW 3020 Cape Cod Red Exterior Solid Stain or Cabot O.V.T. What I consider the best reds are the solid colored barn reds.

I often use bright red for the front door or shutters. The best reds for home exterior doors are Farrow & Ball Rectory Red 217, Benjamin-Moore Caliente AF-290 or Moroccan Red 1309, Pittsburgh Paints Ruby Lips 434-7, and Sherwin-Williams Poinsettia SW6594art.
If you’re looking for a red color that goes well with the color of your composite slate or shingles, there’s a general rule to follow. If your shake or slate roof shingles are a neutral gray, you can use any red color. Choose one that complements the other colors in your home.
If your slate or shake roofing material is a warm brown, terracotta red, or very warm gray, use a light orange-red instead of burgundy or pink. If your slate or shingle roof is a cool gray, blue or green, a cool red would be a better choice.

What Are The New House Paint Color Trends For 2020?
I spent 20 minutes coming up with the perfect title for this post 🤔 – a title that captures the incredible contrast of our new dark color outside of our house. I’m not sure about the title.”
Enough. What I do know is that after all the research on paint colors with brick red, all the little test sessions around our house, until now this dark blue custom color that my husband and I made. Is definitely the best dog if you have one. Similar to the red brick exterior of your home and want to update your home, it could be the paint color that will bring your home to a whole new level.
When we moved into the house it was painted sage with cream ivory trim which washed out the entire Cape Cod style of our new home. I think it was fine, the brick fit perfectly, but it didn’t stick out and the house looked old. It made me feel like dust 🤧 Honestly, it was boring and too predictable.
Found a dark green door, but then again, I felt old and dusty looking at the front door. As you can see below, even our dog wants it.
How To Pick Shingle Colors
By the way, the first thing I did when we moved in was remove the sheepskin bars from the side windows that look down. They were so dusty and faded I grabbed them and they are still in the basement. To replace this you can check out our cheap engineered wood shutters: wood side shutters. Shutters provide privacy!
After about a year, we hired a crew to paint the house a cheery blue (be sure to check out lots of references and get plenty of estimates). Did I get the right color? Oh no. It grows on us, and this periwinkle-like blue is definitely an upgrade from dull sage. After replacing traditional shutters with our DIY cedar stained shutters, I began to appreciate the color blue better. It stayed that way for about 10 years. You’ll notice that the updated garage doors match the shutters and everything flows well.
Unfortunately the front door still didn’t look right. Despite replacing the old brick stairs with beautiful DIY mahogany wood stairs, I still don’t feel like this front door lives up to its full potential. We even considered replacing it completely, but this old door is so solid that it doesn’t seem like the right choice. Especially considering the high cost of high quality doors. Maybe one day, but wait and see how the final colors make our old door pop…
Peach! Welcome to our home. See how this dark blue paint color brightens up our front door. So bright you can catch a rainbow 🌈…
What Color Garage Door Goes With Red Brick
Here are a few more photos from last fall after the paint job was finished to show you how the dark blue brings out the cool brick tones and how the crisp white forest/lake background of our house Emphasizes form. The difference is truly shocking, especially in person.
I especially love the look of cedar shingles with that deep blue color. You may want to note that using semi-gloss on cedar shingles actually emphasizes their unique pattern rather than hiding it. The picture above and below really prove to me why I think our custom colors are a unique combination.”
So tell me. See the blue in the bricks? This is the main reason I want this color. The brick has the exact same tone as the blue, so I knew it would work.
After they finished all the patching and prep work, which took several days because there were a ton of painters, they asked me to come out and make sure the color was right. I panicked in the middle of my hallway in my pajamas, but said, “Oh yeah, sure! I’ll be right back! 😳” I slowly walked out and almost fainted when I looked back. I saw how beautiful it was. It was indeed a risk, but I guess one could call it a calculated risk.

I asked the young couple what a good job they were doing. I also made cookies
My husband (note: Rick went to law school while running his own paint business) and I spent months researching paint colors, interviewing paint companies, and all winter long before hiring one. Did you wait? The price was high (some estimates are 10k more so be careful).
Next season we met a husband and wife team like me.
