When we moved in, it was painted sage with cream ivory trim, which really enhanced the Cape Cod style of our new home. I thought it was beautiful and it went well with the brickwork, but it didn’t show and made the house look old. I felt almost like dust. It was frankly boring and very predictable.

It grew on us, and this deep blue type of bush was definitely an improvement on rugged sage. After we replaced our traditional shutters with DIY cedar stain shutters, I began to appreciate blue much more. It lasted about 10 years. You may notice that the updated garage door matches the shutters and it all flows perfectly.

Unfortunately, the front door still didn’t look right 🤔 . Even after replacing the old brick stairs with a beautiful DIY mahogany staircase, I still didn’t feel like this patio door was living up to its full potential. Here are more photos from last fall, right after the painters were done, to show you how the dark blue brings out the cool brick tones and the bright white brings the shape of our outhouse against the background of the forest / lake. The difference is truly astounding, especially in person.

When the artists finished the repair and preparation, which took days because there were tons, they asked me to come out and make sure the color was right.
