Choosing exterior paint can be difficult…even more challenging than choosing interior paint. You have to consider the sun, the time of day, the shade of green

I know, I know… they are good inside, but not good outside, because they are too bright in the sun-like blind. It’s almost hard to look long. Instead, try a red or off-white that will look brighter in an outdoor setting. I ended up with the Nuance SW 7049, which looks great in the review book, but looks very different outside my house. It is a pleasant and clear read, but not exhaustive.

If the water entered the brick and left the pieces, it means that the brick is ready to finish. If water evaporates or accumulates on it, it indicates that there is some kind of coating on the brick that does not accept paint.

How To Whitewash Brick

I already covered this, but you know your brick is ready to paint…after you clean the brick, smooth it with a latex acrylic masonry conditioner. It is a color preservative recommended for use on exterior masonry such as brick and stucco. Allow to dry for at least 24 hours.

Bricks do not need to be painted. It’s beautiful, it’s very long, it’s amazing, and for me… it’s a beautiful choice. I love how beautiful it is to add painted brick to some homes. I recommend checking out other homes in your neighborhood. Is there a box? If not, maybe there is a reason for that? Talk to your neighbors, learn about the history of your home and decide what style to go for. It’s a real commitment. If you are painting new brick, wait a year. This allows time for cleaning and heating. The condition of the brick has a lot to do with painting, waterproofing or leaving it alone. Old brick, old, good shape, may need recycling. Bricks that look rough or damaged should be covered with flat paint to cover the imperfection.

I used a special Porch & Floor Enamel in Repose Gray SW 7015, pictured below. I just walked. It takes about 20 minutes and is the easiest paint I’ve ever used. FYI- it’s not installed…our floor looked like this before we painted it.

How To Paint Exterior Brick Like A Pro

You have to consider many factors such as alkalinity, bloom, water and humidity. The best way to find out which pill is right for you is to talk to different experts.

Again, it depends on your brick, but usually for OLD, holes, or rough looking brick…you need a good sealer and a flat coat of paint hides the imperfections. I recommend Loxon Concrete and Masonry Primer. For new bricks that are at least a year old and in good to good condition, I recommend Loxon Acrylic Conditioner. Follow that up with an acrylic varnish like Loxon Auto-Cleaning Acrylic.
