Classic gray has warm purple undertones and sometimes soft pink. Since Classic Gray is off-white, it can sometimes reflect other tones depending on the environment. For example, if there is a lot of greenery outside – it can always be a little greener.

The color is a pale warm gray with subtle green undertones you would never see and purple undertones in cool light. Sometimes it can read so warm it’s almost a beige color, and sometimes it can read a warm light gray.

Photos and Design: Color Concierge. This north facing room has classic gray walls and a Simply White decor.
Simply White has a LRV of 74.8, making it a very light gray or a darker off-white. LRV stands for Light Reflectance Value, which measures how light (LRV=100) or dark (LRV=0) a color is.
Use it as a substitute for white when your room is too dark or there is a lot of greenery outside. This is a great solution to update your interior with rustic Tuscan decor.
This is a great color for any exposure – north, south, east or west. It is so light that it usually appears white. In a dark north-facing room, it may flash slightly gray and stay lit at all times of the day in east- and west-facing rooms. It looks great in soft white in south facing rooms.
My Favorite (and Less So!) Paint Colors: What I Have In My Home
The problem that seems contradictory to white paint is that you need a lot of light to transmit white. Dark rooms have a lot of shadows that make white rooms look dirty. Another issue is that whiteness reflects everything; the grass, the color of your neighbor’s paint, the pink flowers, even the evergreen trees. Bright white reflects all the colors around it. Classic gray neutralizes all the colors around it.
One more thing… we do not recommend painting Classic Gray or any other Benjamin Moore paint with Sherwin-Williams, Behr or any other manufacturer. Paint color schemes are hard to copy and whites are really hard to get right. Read more about color combinations.
The staircase below features Classic Gray with a touch of Simply White. We love how it features a beautiful brass Buddha statue. This color pairs well with warm metals like copper and nickel.
Pure whites like Chantilly Lace (BM OC-65), Oxford White (BM 869) and Extra White (SW 7006) look clean and fresh with Classic Grey. Off-whites like Simply White (BM OC-117) and Cloud White (OC-130) also look great with this color. Stay away from darker whites like White Dove or beiges like Swiss Brown as the contrast isn’t enough and the combination looks wrong.

Classic gray is a great color for an all-white exterior palette, and it looks a lot brighter than you might expect from the outside.
It’s also one of our dirty little secrets when it comes to exterior trim colors. When choosing colors for exterior spaces, always remember that sunlight makes paint colors appear 5 times lighter than indoors. It looks 10 times brighter in the bright Colorado sun! We like using this color as an exterior trim color because it’s not too light to work with brick, and not as yellow as beige. Correctly! White can also look great as an exterior paint color. We chose Classic Gray to decorate the gorgeous home below. The hosts (and artists) were skeptical, but it turned out great!
