It’s no secret that we tend to be passive. We love the warmth of a perfect gray or the depth of a dark charcoal. But we love the subtlety of color and the boldness of the seawall. If you’re looking to transform your space we’ve rounded up some of our favorite Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore paint colors, along with a long list of other options!
In this kitchen renovation, we used BM HC-168 Chelsea Gray on the island and SW 7017 Dorian Gray on the perimeter cabinets. Highlighting the island in a dark or dirty color will add interest and depth to the room!
We love the BM 2129-30 Blue Note. A very muted navy – not too dark, not too light, just enough gray that it’s not overpowering, yet stands out as a beautiful color. Here’s a tip when using dark, dark colors: Make sure your room has plenty of light and keep your accents light and airy so it doesn’t overwhelm the room.
When installing this herringbone wall for our client, we chose a gray color. We loved how SW 7019 Gauntlet Gray added drama to this feature wall and how it perfectly complemented the SW 7043 Worldly Gray wall color. Another great option with a very similar color is BM HC-172 Revere Pewter.
Colors Of The Year
Blues and greens are some of our favorite colors when clients want to add color but still keep a neutral palette. This client’s women’s office using SW 7057 silver strand is a perfect example of this. Green is blue and remains gray. We like SW 6204 sea salt, which has a big color.
When we helped this client create a bourbon-themed basement, we chose SW 7048 Urban Bronze on the ceiling to add drama and play with the rustic look they were looking for. And because we know you’re curious, we used SW 7031 Mega Greige on the walls, one of our favorites!
While we love clean, bright, and clean interiors, there’s no denying what a notebook like this can be to any room. When updating this client’s room, we chose SW 7674 Peppercorn to highlight the built-ins.
SW 7015 Repose Gray is probably one of the most used, sought after and recognized shades of gray in our range. This is a clean, long-lasting and safe solution if you want to stay neutral. It’s light and shiny and helps reflect a lot of light, but it’s really pretty with a glossy white finish.

Now that we’ve featured some of our favorite paint colors, let’s talk about some tips to help you choose the right paint and finish! When choosing a color for your room, paint a large piece of poster board and hang it up for a day or two to see how the color changes in different lighting and times of day.
We highly recommend flat or satin to all our customers in most situations. They not only reduce the amount of light coming from the wall surface, but also help to hide the imperfections of the wall. For the finish, semi-gloss is best for durability.

Last week I told you that our first project of the year was to build a small kitchen. Painting is the biggest part of the transformation. Our kitchen has white floors, black granite and sea salt green walls. I am dying to whitewash the walls. I think it would work great with dark brown surfaces.
So today I’m sharing my favorite light paint colors. I have had the opportunity to choose paint colors for many design projects and these whites have always been my go-to.
White Dove is a beautiful warm light. It has a light grayish white appearance but no yellow/white appearance. It is a great color for walls, decorations and cabinets.
Simple white is the color we painted in our downstairs bathroom and I love it! It was named color of the year in 2016 and in my opinion is one of the smartest whites out there. This white is warm without being too pale and crisp without being too blue. This will give you a fresh, clean look and won’t give any indication that you’re struggling to make up your mind.

Designers are pure white. A little touch of gray to soften the color, but that’s basically what I do for white. I often use it for trim or carts.
Our living room has alabaster, it’s a warm white. Very similar to Benjamin Moore White Dove. It’s not too yellow and looks great with a bright white finish. It is also a popular color for ships.
Cloud White is a soft warm white that sits between White Dove and Simply White. It’s a neutral sound that makes a lot of sense. This color can be used for walls, trim, and even ceilings!
White White is pure white with just a hint of warmth, which is perfect if you’re looking for a true white that isn’t blue. If you are planning to choose a white kitchen then this color is perfect for the cabinets. Also suitable for walls and decorations.

Chantilly lace is another white, it is blue in color and looks white. It is very simple, so it blends well in a room that uses cool tones throughout the decoration.
Now that I’ve shared my favorites, the hard part is choosing one. Below are tips that I use for myself and my clients.
1. Limit your options. I like to combine different colors and narrow it down to 3-4 options. Any other options can be overwhelming and make the decision more difficult.
2. Can be done in one of the following three ways. If you don’t remember the color patterns on the walls, you can paint three colors of your choice in two different places in your room. A better option is to order bulk samples from Semalize.

Sampize is an online store that offers paint samples and painted wood with real paint colors. This way you can see how the paint will look without damaging the walls. You can save on all these paint sets, so there’s no cleanup and no waste.
Another option is to paint the patterns on a large foam board and move them into place. The purpose of this is to see how colors appear at different times of the day and at different times of the month.
3. Another important thing to keep in mind while choosing a color is the gloss. I usually do a salad shell for the walls, a satin or semi-gloss finish and a flat for the ceiling. Gloss affects how a color looks, so it’s important to determine this before choosing models.
