Classic Grey Benjamin Moore Bedroom – Choosing a color is a challenge, but choosing a neutral color in particular is harder than it looks. If you want to stay away from white, gray is the best choice. Although paint comes in many colors and shades, there is one particular gray that designers can’t get enough of: Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray.

“It’s a versatile neutral and provides a cool and peaceful refuge from the heat,” says designer Nancy Price. And we love the environment it creates!”

The elegant color has a real moment – and it is also an example of the new neutral that designers love, called greige. “It’s somewhere between beige and warm,” says designer Kiley Baun, “in between shades that act as an option that’s not too cool and not too warm.”

Designer Dominique DeLaney says Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray is one of her go-to outfits. “It’s a warm gray that’s bright and shiny and looks great anywhere,” she says, “use it in the living room, bedroom, or even in the hallway to make it light and airy—and focus on wall art.”

In this Manhattan apartment by Amir Khamneipur, the feeling of a luxury hotel level is the goal. Calm color palettes of dusty ash paint throughout the renovated apartment make it spacious despite its size, including kitchen cabinets painted in Benjamin Moore’s Harbor Gray.

As Benjamin Moore’s color of the year for 2019, Metropolitan is a sleek, sophisticated, light gray with cool undertones. “It’s a neutral color that signifies a state of mind and design,” explains Ellen O’Neill, director of strategic design for Benjamin Moore. “Either arresting or aggressive, this subtle yet glamorous gray creates interesting and impactful public spaces.”

For the West Hollywood home of DJ Drew Taggart – better known as one half of The Chainsmokers – designer Peti Lau used Benjamin Moore’s Kendall Charcoal in the dining room. Rich, deep gray jumps to the white ceiling and trim.

Designer Analisse Taft-Gersten painted the island in her Connecticut home in Benjamin Moore’s Amherst Gray to contrast with Calcutta gold counters and silver satin-painted cabinets. A timeless dark gray adds elegance to a modern room.

Designer Ann Wolf brought color to the master bedroom of her Houston home, painting the walls Benjamin Moore’s Gray Owl. “It’s a light gray, with a little blue,” she said. “We wanted a warm gray because of the height of the ceiling. A lot of colors stand out against it.”

In the world of white, Benjamin Moore Classic Gray (OC-23) is a soft gray that reads white in a room where white doesn’t look right. It’s a warm gray light with light green undertones that you won’t see and purple flashes in cool light. Sometimes it can read a warm almost beige color, and other times it can read a light gray.

Before & After: An 1890s Bedroom Gets A Modern, Yet Classic Update

This is the first installment of our “All About Paint Colors” series, where we share everything we’ve learned in the trenches about paint colors.

Simply White has an LRV of 74.8 making it a light greige or a dark white. LRV stands for Light Reflectance Value, which is a measure of how light (LRV=100) or dark (LRV=0) a color is.

Use white instead when your room is too dark, or you have a lot of plants outside. It is a good solution to update the interior with the Tuscan finish of the house.

Paint Colors In My Home

It is a good color for any exposure – north, south, east or west. It is very light, usually it appears white. In a dark room facing north, it can be light gray at any time of the day and hold its own in rooms facing east and west. It looks like a lovely soft white in a south facing room.

The challenge with white color that can seem contradictory is that you need a lot of light to choose white. A dark room will have a lot of shadows that make the whites pale. Another challenge is that white people represent everything; The grass, the color of the neighbors, the pink flowers, even the evergreen trees. Bright white reflects all the colors around them. Classic gray will neutralize all surrounding colors.

Also…we do not recommend that you try Classic Match Gray or Benjamin Moore paints with Sherwin-Williams, Behr or other manufacturers. Paint formulas are hard to replicate, and white is hard to get right. Read more about color matching here.

The staircase below shows classic gray and simple white. We love how it accentuates the beautiful bronze Buddha statue. This color goes well with warm metals such as copper and nickel.

Designers Love Benjamin Moore’s Classic Gray Paint—here’s Why

Clean whites such as Chantilly Lace (BM OC-65), Oxford White (BM 869) and Extra White (SW 7006) look clean and crisp with classic grays. Off-white colors such as Simply White (BM OC-117) and Cloud White (OC-130) also look good with this color. Stay away from dark white like Dove White or cream like Swiss Coffee because the contrast will not be enough and the combination will look wrong.

In a bathroom, or a room with a high ceiling, you can paint the classic ceiling gray like the walls, like the bedroom below. This bedroom was a challenge to paint because of the east exposure and the green and blue houses across the street. In summer, green plants make this room feel like a tree house, but they can make white walls look green. We tried SW Incredible White (favorite color) and it looks very pink. Facing the east is difficult, and the classic gray makes it easy.

Classic gray is a great color for all white exterior paint, and will look brighter on the outside than you might expect.

The Best Classic Paint Colors For A Timeless Living Room

It’s also one of our dirty little secrets for exterior paint. When choosing an exterior paint, it’s always good to remember that sunlight makes the paint look 5 times lighter than the interior. In the bright Colorado sun, it looks 10 times brighter! We like to use this color as an exterior color because it is not too bright to use brick color, not too yellow like cream. It’s true! It can also look good as white for exterior paint. We recommend the classic gray to trim in the beautiful house below. The home owner (and painter) was skeptical, but it was amazing!

Classic gray is a beautiful color that reflects white. Wear it anywhere, but go with bright colors and whites like Chantilly Lace and Simply White. As always, don’t forget to test your color palette! Learn all about color testing here.
