Make White Background Transparent Photoshop – In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to create an awesome background in Photoshop. Making a background transparent in Photoshop is the same as removing or erasing the background.
The white background also makes the selection process easier and you can make more complex selections like selecting hair, removing leaves and more. Let’s dive in to learn more.
Make White Background Transparent Photoshop
Open the image in Photoshop. You can open an image by choosing File > Open and selecting the image you want to open. You can use any image for this tutorial like your own or maybe someone else’s but I’m using this one with a nice white image.

Press Ctrl + J to duplicate the background layer or right click on the background layer and select ‘Duplicate Layer’. We duplicate the background layer because in Photoshop, the background layer is transparent and at the same time, duplicating the layer will not harm your original image.
You will now have copies of the wallpaper and background image (see image below). You can remove the background layer or you can turn off its visibility by clicking the Appearance icon.
Now it’s time to choose the background. The fastest way to do this is to use the Quick Selection Tool (W). You can also use other tools to activate each selection tool and select a white background.
Go to Quick Options (v) and make sure Add to Options is selected in the Options bar.

Since we all know that the Quick Selection Tool (W) sometimes works with color swatches if your subject is white or nearly white (as you can see in the man in the gray jacket), he can pick that part. The reason is simple because gray is close to white.
You can solve this problem and to solve it you need to remove the option. Just hold the ALT key or select Remove from options in the options bar.

The best way to remove the background is to use a layer mask. With layer masking, you can quickly go back when you want to show certain parts again or maybe you made a mistake during the selection process. So we will use a layer mask to remove the background. With this option enabled, click the second button at the bottom of the Layers panel to apply the layer mask
If you select Model instead of Background, you can press Ctrl/Cmd + I to change the resulting layer.
If you think you made some mistakes or because you deleted parts you didn’t want, don’t worry, the overlay will take care of it. All you have to do is select a layer mask, use a white brush to paint it over the area you want to see again. You can learn more about using layer masks in our tutorial.
Sometimes, when we use the fastest method, we get stuck looking around at subjects we don’t want to. To soften them, you can manually mask areas by painting a layer mask with a soft black brush. This really improves the results and I use the mask every time to clean unwanted areas or parts.

You should now have a clear background image if you are happy with the result. But our work is not finished yet and we need a backup to save the images.
Please do not save the image as a jpeg or you will have a different white background on the image. In the Settings box, select PNG 8 to save the file in PNG format.
You can also choose PNG 24. You can also save the image by selecting File > Save As and selecting the PNG format, but why should I use Save for Web?
In the image below you can also see many options as you can set the resolution of the image, you can reduce the quality, distort the image or you can even preview the image using the configuration settings. All these settings are available only for the Save for Web command and not for Save As. That’s why I choose this option to save the image when I want to save any final result.

Once you have set the quality, resolution of the image or maybe you don’t want to do anything with the image settings, click the save button. Give the image any name and save the file as PNG.
Usually, logos always have a clear background, otherwise you can highlight your logo background here. Go to File > Open and open the icon image as below.
To make the background clear, we first need to unlock the layer. Additionally, locked layers are not transparent in Photoshop. To unlock a layer, click the lock icon in the Layers panel to unlock it.
After opening the layer, you will see that the lock icon will disappear and you can now start working on the photo.

To highlight the background, select it with the Magic Wand Tool (W). Select If in the Toolbar, click on the white background to select.
Click on the mask layer icon to remove the background and you will get a result similar to the image below.
Now, there is usually a gap between the top base as you can see in the picture below.
We need to repeat the process, select the Magic Wand Tool (W) and click on the site in the middle and select the site.
Fast & Easy Ways To Remove White Background In Photoshop
Once you’ve made your selection, make sure the layer mask is selected and the foreground color is set to black by pressing (D) on your keyboard, then press ALT + Backspace to remove the space between the logos.
Repeat this process until you make the background completely transparent. Here you can see what I have done so far:
To preserve the clarity of the icon, we need to save the image in PNG format. This method will help you add your logo wherever you want without any background behind it.
