Before you get to the paint colors, I want to give you some tips for sampling paint colors in your own home:

The Best White Paint Colors To Use In Your Home • Project Allen Designs

A color’s light reflectance value or “LRV” measures the amount of visible light reflected from a painted surface. So, for example, an LRV of 0 is black and an LRV of 100 is white.

When thinking about white, you should consider not only how light or dark it is, but also the color temperature, whether it is warm, cool or neutral. Warm white looks like red, orange or yellowish white. Cool whites look like white mixed with green, blue or purple. Neutral whites are a “thermometer” in the middle of the temperature range, never tipping over hot or cold. This is the easiest way for me to explain it, but look at this color wheel below and you’ll get a better idea of warm and cool tones. Although you still have a “warm” blue and a “cool” yellow, I tend to be more yellow/warm or more blue/cool for white.

On the Behr website, you can research to see if their whites are too warm or cool and which colors warrant marquee one-coat coverage. A sample size of Behr paint is 8 oz. jar and usually cost between $3 and $4. This is the color I use the most.

Ultra Pure White – Also known as off-the-shelf True White, has an LRV of 94. It’s bright, it’s white, and it always leans a little on the cooler side. I use it in my handmade signs. You don’t have to go to the paint counter because that’s where they use to mix other colors. If they don’t have the finish you want (flat, eggshell, satin, etc.), you’ll need to blend it.

White – Slightly darker than Ultra Pure White, Behr’s “White” has an LRV of 83 and is always slightly cooler.

Swiss Coffee – Swiss Coffee has an LRV of 84, meaning it’s one number lighter than Behr’s “white”, but it’s warmer and almost creamy (hence the name, I guess).

Polar Bear – LRV 90 Polar Bear is a nice, neutral white with a slight peach undertone, like polar bear fur.

Little Sugar – This color has an LRV of 89 and is a true neutral white, not too warm and not too cool. If I look at the color swatches on the card, this is the color I use on my walls, but I changed it to my wall (previous color was Revere Pewter) and it doesn’t happen to me.

Palais White – A creamy white with an LRV of 89, Palais White was a color recommended to me by a home decorator who used it in his own homes.

Simply White – Reminiscent of the first snow, this crisp white is versatile. I tried it on my walls and it was warm on all the colors.

Chantilly Lace – By far, the Benjamin Moore white color I received was the most popular and I can see why. A quick search on Pinterest will provide you with plenty of images of this beautiful white color. It is called a “pure” white and has an LRV of 92 without cool or warm undertones.

Decorator’s White – BM’s “Decorator’s White” reminds me a lot of Behr’s “White”. It is slightly cooler and has an LRV of 84.

Behr Blank Canvas: A Complete Color Review

Super White – According to the Benjamin Moore website, Super White is “inherently sophisticated and endlessly versatile” and I have to agree. It’s a beautiful off-white with an 89’s LRV.

Cloud White – Light and bright, this subtle, sophisticated shade of soft white is reminiscent of steamy clouds on a clear day. LRV of 87.

High Gloss White – This color is one of Sherwin Williams’ 93 LRV whites and comes in a very “pure” white. I compare it to Behr’s “Ultra Pure White”.

Extra White – Another crisp, clean white that creates the perfect backdrop for any room, Extra White is showcased in various showrooms. I think it’s pretty cool – it has an 86’s LRV.

Snowbound – Snowbound is a true off white and neutral color, not too warm, not too cool, just Goldilocks white. It has an LRV of 83.

Alabaster – Without a doubt, Alabaster was the first recommendation my followers gave me. I think it *has* something to do with Joanna Gaines using it in her fixer upper and her own farmhouse in many of her homes. This color is very warm, white, and dare I say light brown. It has an LRV of 82.

Pure White – Pure white isn’t actually pure white, it’s a safe color, a neutral, calming white that looks great in any space. It has an LRV of 84

Sherwin Williams’ Superpaint Review

When I was shopping for the perfect white, I wanted something that would warm up my room without clashing too much with the existing moldings because I was only painting one accent wall and didn’t want to paint all the moldings. Trim. If I painted it bright white, the trim would look yellow and relatively old, so I made sure to test lots of samples on my walls (also, on my press and seal sheets.) The color name I finally settled on was… “White” by Behr. Yes, the name is “white” and I can’t wait to put it on the walls! Stay tuned for a board and batten accent wall and photo frame accent wall featuring this color. Do you have questions about some of your favorite Behr colors but can’t find the answers?
