Trim color is only one aspect of choosing an exterior color. Lightning is another important factor. While grey, gray and beige alternate on the big trend wheel, there is one color that has a certain timeless quality, and that color is cream. That’s why we’re looking at one of our favorite cream colors, Benjamin Moore Navajo White.

No hacking! Although its name suggests otherwise, Navajo White is definitely not white, it is cream in color and has a clip.
Every cream color has a yellow shade, not far from it. And while we’ll get into the undertones shortly, the yellow color of Navajo White is what makes it a great choice for cool, north-facing rooms, as well as rooms with eastern afternoon or western morning light.
Navajo white, on the other hand, is not so warm and pale that it would look out of place in a south-facing room, although it will get quite warm.

Navajo White has an LRV of about 78 or 79. I gave you both because Benjamin Moore can’t get it between his fan deck and his website! In any case, Navajo white is an almost white color.
With such a high LRV, you can expect Navajo White to wash out quite a bit if you have a room with strong natural light. However, its softness and undertones make it a great choice for many dark rooms as well as lighter ones.
The image above shows a white Navajo in a bright area to the north. Look at how it washes off the main part of the wall and you start to see more ‘colour’ through the plinth.

As you just learned, Navajo white is yellow in color, as are all cream colors. Now, the yellow undertones can lean towards a light yellow-green or yellow-orange – Navajo white can lean towards a yellow-orange, but not too much – with a nice neutral base, just enough to tone down the yellow.

It’s not that Navajo white is a bad exterior color, it’s just that most people looking for that color are drawn to creams that are more flexible and have less yellow undertones (Benjamin Moore Belle White or Sharon Williams White Duck style).
Well yes. But I don’t mean popular in a good way. I can’t tell you how many clients I have who are trying to update the look of their kitchen cabinets with Navajo white and spend a lot of time matching paint colors.

If you like cream cabinets, you can fill the shoes, but know that it may affect your resale value in the future. Regardless of your personal taste, most people prefer white cabinets because they are timeless and the most flexible when it comes to new styles and updated features.
