Dark Cabinets With Butcher Block Countertops – For several years. Remember that beautiful kitchen renovation? This kitchen remodel is one of my favorites!

Today I’m sharing my thoughts on how we love our quilt blocks, what we know, and how we stamp our quilt blocks. If you plan to go down this path one day, or if you’ve already stamped the blocks, you may find them useful. If you’re still leaning more towards marble contacts, check out this post.

I think so! I love the look and feel of the warmth and would post them again and again.

But we learned along the way that wood-penetrating oil alone wasn’t going to work for us. I wanted to seal the counter surface with something waterproof.

Having lived with my meter for a while, I definitely wasn’t waterproofing it for a few reasons:

There are many options. We treated the counters with wood oil for several months – using the oil recommended by the dealer, and using the recommended method. After installation, we use the oil every two days (YES!), then weekly, then every two weeks, then monthly and then six months later. It required a lot of attention, and it was a lot of work!

When the oil brings out the color and shine of the wood and comes in direct contact with the warmth and different textures of the wood – I couldn’t love it!

So we finally took a tip from a friend – the method she used to seal the block in the bathroom.

I want to say that our contact is waterproof, and that’s not the only way!

I know there are other options, so do your research first! This process worked for us, and I’d love to hear how it works for you if you try this method.

The first thing we did was give the counter a good scrub until it was clean! We used a Ryobi sander.

One coat waterproofs the surface and gives our counter a nice finish, but as my friend suggested, it won’t stain.

It’s a layer of liquid that dries to the plastic wrap and is great for sealing the counter, but then there’s a layer of plastic between you and the beautiful new wood.

We chose a quick drying product so we could apply the second coat after the first coat had dried.

The results were excellent. I like to spread anything on the counter now. It was a simple, few steps that we had to do for a long time.

Here’s some fun news – Craft Art Countertops contacted us last month and asked if our readers would be interested in a secret sale! Over the past 6 years we’ve used cinder block in most of the spaces we’ve renovated and we get a lot of questions about our kitchen islands where we used Arts of the Arts DIY chalkboard style walnut tops. They’re offering our readers 20% off counters (they have loads!) with code CLJ here until July 31st.

How We Care For And Oil Our Butcher Block Countertop — The Grit And Polish

We used the same plank-style walnut in the laundry room and extended the backsplash, which I think adds warmth to the room. A few coats of water and we didn’t have to do anything else to it!

You may remember that we used an easy butcher block in Pittsburgh Kitchen – also from Craft Art. Here we used white oak plank style. In the picture below, they are not sealed, and the tile is slightly darkened from use.

The best thing about blocking blocks is that you can always make them anew

If you want Or, you can embrace the patina that comes with life. We don’t really like to cut ourselves, but we like to use it to roll out the dough. We recently redid our island (after 2 years) because a girl spilled super glue on it. (You can learn more about this process here… finish, not superglue.)
