Choosing a white paint color sounds easy, but with hundreds of options to choose from, how do you really choose? I asked people on Instagram to share their favorite white paint colors and decided to pick eight of the most popular options. I wanted to share them with you today in case anyone else is having trouble choosing a color. Please let me know what you like!

I should mention that Garrett’s and my white paint color for the past decade has been Benjamin Moore’s Pure White. We still love some creamy bright whites. But with Poplar Cottage, we wanted to try more to make sure it was the best option for this little cottage. So we tested eight popular white paint colors on freshly primed walls.

I mixed these samples (except the BM Simply White we have) at our local Sherwin Williams store. Some whites are hard to see on primed walls, but hopefully you can still feel them. let’s see…

We always love warm whites in our homes. Warm whites with yellow or peach undertones generally feel comfortable and relaxing. Cool whites often have bluish tints and often feel a little sterile. I also love the warm white versus brass tone look we planned throughout the house.

This time, we’re open to a bit of off-white to really bright white. A reader mentioned that plain white would feel too modern for an older house, and I could see where they came from. We’ve always loved BM Simply White in our old house, but it does add a little modernity to the room. For Poplar Cottage, I envisioned a layered, cozy cottage feel for the home that the warm, slightly off-white color would work with.

Our Favorite White Paint Colors

I took some pictures with my iPhone so I wanted to show those too because the lighting looks a little different.

I’ve been looking at the benefits of these samples for a week, Garrett and I both love BM Simply White and BM Swiss Coffee (maybe Simple White for trim and Swiss Coffee for walls…?) . I also love SW Alabaster. Who would have thought that choosing a white interior color would be so difficult. White can be pale, creamy, and even have some shades of gray. Trust me when they say there are thousands of different shades of white. This can be a daunting task if you don’t have a place to start.

Remember, when choosing the perfect white for your home, consider the amount of direct sunlight your home or room receives. This will have a huge impact on your choice of white. You also want to ask yourself these questions: Do I want a bright, crisp white? More creamy? Or even white with grey markings?

We love using white tones indoors because it creates a light and airy feel that we love. White also creates a clean, timeless look that never goes out of style.

Best Sherwin Williams White Paint Colors

A few months ago, we wrote about our favorite exterior white paint colors, so in this post, I’ll share our top picks for interior white paint. This always seems to be a hot topic and a recurring question.

Our current modern farmhouse is painted Sherwin Williams Creamy. We chose to paint the walls, ceiling and trim in the same colour. The only difference is the trim, the doors and boat are satin.

We love the clean look of the same color, and we’re doing the same in the new version. Not to mention, it makes the paint job so much easier.

Creamy soft and delicate milky white. We chose this to match the color of our kitchen decor and it is cream.

Benjamin Moore’s White Dove is neither pure white nor cream. I think it’s the perfect white and grey.

Pure white is also a look we mentioned. It is a very elegant white that draws color from its surroundings.

Most of the walls, ceilings, trim and doors in our current home are painted white. We love this color so much that we are using it on our current flip house project.

If you’re looking for a creamy white, Benjamin Moore’s Navajo White is perfect. It’s creamy with a dose of yellow. I personally use this color more in sunrooms, mudrooms or bathrooms.

Extra White by Sherwin Williams is a light white with a modern twist. Great for painting cabinets and also looks great on walls, trim and ceilings.

Sherwin Williams Alabaster has been a favorite for years, and was even named Color of the Year in 2016. It is a very soft white but not creamy at all. This is another option for interior walls built in a new home.

The ride of the Valspar maintains a cool neutral white-gray tone. It’s a little darker than Extra White, but more than enough. Perfect for living room or bedroom.

Benjamin Moore’s Simple White is a very popular white used by many designers. It is a soft white but not too creamy. This is definitely one of my favorites and probably a contender for our new home.

Benjamin Moore’s Moonlight White is a sophisticated and versatile color. Perfect if you’re looking for a cleaner, more modern feel.

Benjamin Moore’s Cloud White is a classic white. The name is apt as it is indeed a cloud white. It is very warm and soft on the eyes.

Remember, even if you use a clean white background for the interior of your home, there are several ways to add warmth to an all-white room. I like the look and feel of the lighter shades, but the home also needs heating elements to feel comfortable. My mission is to help you create a home you love, no matter your budget. Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee is a very popular white paint color. If you found this review post, it’s probably because you’re considering it for your home. It could be the perfect white for you! But I’ve never used it and never will. Read on to find out why!

If you’ve been around for a while, you’ll know that I’m a huge fan of White Walls. The walls come in four very popular shades of white:

Swiss coffee is really popular because it’s often used by designers, including Studio McGee’s well-known and beloved designer Shea McGee (look great in her beautiful designs below). He even uses it at 75% power most of the time in his house. But Swiss coffee is my least favorite of these popular whites. Why? It’s all about the undertones.

The Best White Paint Colors For Every Home

Swiss coffee is considered a warm white because of the hint of yellow in its recipe. It reads a little too warm and beige than white for my personal taste. I mean, look at the image below from Benjamin Moore’s Swiss Coffee website. I think most people would consider it more beige or off-white than white. The room above was designed by Swiss Coffee Studio McGee and looks even whiter thanks to the huge windows that let in lots of natural light! But few people own a home with so much natural light. I think white walls would be great (I love the non-white decorating idea – we do in our current house).
