Over the years we have been asked many times to build a version of hOMe beyond the original 28′ 24′ tall version. Dividing 4′ from our favorite home design wasn’t so easy, so it took us a while to create a new design that we loved. We’re happy to say we’ve done just that and are happy to list the design here for the first time anywhere.
One detail that inspired our design is something we wanted to keep in the original house: how bright and open it is inside. The first thing you will notice when you step into the 24′ version is the high ceiling in the small lounge. Ceilings make the eyes go up and make the space seem much larger. The living room is an open staircase, defined by windows, an exterior door and an indication of the location of the entertainment center. The idea is that the space can be used in many ways and we want you to decide how your personal space should feel. It is your home after all!
The living room in the small house HOME 24′ gives way to the kitchen and the bathroom beyond. Central pipe systems help keep construction costs down. The kitchen has a stove/oven, refrigerator, pantry and washer-dryer.
The stairs to the master bedroom rise to a ledge above the washer/dryer and refrigerator, which helps conceal kitchen appliances and provides safe and easy access to the attic. Thanks to the design of the pitched roof, the bedroom has plenty of headroom, even for a tall person. A queen size mattress gives you plenty of room to move around when getting in and out of bed. The hoods can easily be used to provide enough storage space for two adults.
