If you are looking to buy a new prefab home, it is important for you to know how to read and understand prefab and auto floor plans. While some mobile home dealers may have homes on site that you can drive through, they have many different home models that you can purchase or customize. Understanding the floor plan will make it easier for you to understand the layout of the house.
Two Bedroom Double Wide Floor Plans
A floor plan tells you a lot about a home. In fact, it shows the size of the house. But a good floor plan will also tell you the size of the room, the way the door opens, and where the appliances are in the kitchen and bathroom. Know these features, they will ensure that you choose the best brand and model for your production house.

To begin with, the floor plan is taken from a bird’s eye view. It means taken from above – as if the ceiling had been removed and you were looking down. Here you can easily identify the main rooms. Check out the photo below featuring a multi-part production house.
First, all walls are solid lines. (In some floor plans, they are filled with patterns.) Breaks in these lines indicate doors, windows, and openings between rooms.
Can you find the front door? It’s in the room. Imagine walking into this house. You can see which areas of the floor are carpeted (brown) and which areas are tiled (lattice pattern). This home is considered an “open floor plan” – note that there are no walls between the living room and kitchen.
Also note that this mobile home has a second door to the outside through the utility room. Notice how the door is pulled. At the front door, the door leads into the living room. At the back door, it swings. Actually, it’s quite common. Why it matters, now you can see which way all the doors hang – and where you want to put your furniture can make a difference.

As you can see, the windows in this plan are white with double stripes. Also, note the notes around the edges of the floor plan – this home has optional windows. So, in this model home, you can add an extra window in bedroom #3, a master bedroom, and you can choose to have a large three-pane window in the living room.
One of the other things you can see on the floor plan is the location of the toilet, sink, bathtub. You can see the locations of a large garden tub, shower, double sink, and toilet in this small floor plan example from Adventure Homes.
Similarly in the kitchen, you can see the placement of stove, sink and refrigerator. Here’s something to note: As you can see in the floor plan above, the house has an oven, but the washer and dryer are optional. Again, these are standard, but good to know when you’re home shopping.
Also, the floor plan includes built-in wardrobes. It is light gray in the floor plan above.

When you’re shopping for a new home, be sure to look at as many mobile home blueprints as possible. Walk through them with your mind and go from room to room. This will help you get used to seeing different layouts and styles of mobile homes.

Choosing the right floor plan starts with sizing your home to fit your lifestyle. Assess how many bedrooms are important for children, whether you need extra space for guests, or whether you need a large kitchen for family meals. Built home floor plans come in a variety of sizes, with popular options ranging from 1,400 to 2,000 square feet and two to four bedrooms.

Before you choose a floor plan you shop around for home design models. Make sure you base your decision on how the home will flow and function for your daily activities. It’s hard not to marvel at the upgraded floors, countertops and furniture in a model home, but try to imagine the home in a “stripped down” state. Then, once you choose a floor plan, you can make your final decision based on the model you choose.

Before you set your heart on a single floor plan, find out what the home costs. Manage your finances and stay comfortably within your means. Ask your sales consultant to break down the costs as you narrow them down to a floor plan that fits your budget.
Even if you only think about the layout of your room and your floor plan, choosing furniture is a big investment. If you decide to use your existing furniture in your next home, make sure you measure and account for it when reviewing the plans.
