The instructions in this lesson are not very useful for creating a watercolor painting, but they can be used to create a mixed color painting in any medium – gouache, acrylic, oil, etc.
Along with the release of my sketchbook tutorial, I edited and published my own sketchbook for free. These are especially useful for creating a combination chart notebook or testing a small number of combinations. You can download six blank mixing charts from the step-by-step tutorial or the step-by-step mixing chart.
Those 6 charts are also included in the tutorial, so if you’re a really good artist—in other words, you know how to make a square and step watercolor mixing chart, and you don’t want any extra tips or information—please enjoy this free resource.
However, if you would like printed instructions and more information on creating and using different watercolor combinations, the Scratchmade Guide can help. Read on to see what Scratchmade’s guide to mixed watercolor paintings is all about.

Mixing colors is important when painting with acrylics. If you know how to mix colors and what to expect, it will be easier to create depth in your image. In this case, a color mixing chart will come in handy.
An acrylic paint mixing chart helps determine which colors can be mixed to get a specific color. It is a detailed analysis of color mixing. It is probably the best way to study color (characteristics and quality) and explore the potential of colors used by an artist.
Color Mixing For Beginners
Let’s learn how to use an acrylic color mixing chart on your photos and how to do it yourself. There is a lot to learn about how colors mix and what results we can expect when we mix colors.
Below is my color mixing chart. There are many color mixing charts available online. Most of them use different colors and mix each color with other colors. There is only one color to mix two colors. There is no change in the mixing ratio of the two colors. However, you can create many different colors by changing the ratio of the two colors you mix. You can see this in the diagram below.
I used only 7 colors with white to create this color mixing chart. As you can see, there are many colors that can be used with just these 7 colors.
A three row acrylic color chart shows you the color orange using 3 different reds and 2 different yellows. Layer 2 consists of a different green and two different yellows made of different blues. Row 3 shows you the colors of purple, consisting of 3 different reds and 2 different blues.
How Do You Mix Pink?
The next row shows different colors of roses that can be made in 3 different colors, red and white. Some colors at the bottom of the color palette are color palettes. These are made by mixing complementary colors and mixing yellow arrows.
You can create your own color mixing chart using colors you already have. This is the best option. You can use my color mixing chart as a guide. You can also refer to the color mixing chart. You can get a good idea of how the colors work together.

Using Paint Density To Your Advantage In Acrylic Pouring
Let’s see how you can use an acrylic color mixing chart in your painting. When you paint, you will need to mix some colors. This may contain the color from the reference image. You might be looking for the best color for your theme.
Now look at the color mixing chart and find the color you want in the picture. If the color mixing chart is your own, or you can use my color mixing chart as a reference.
In the color mixing chart, after selecting a color change, look at the column below to see which two colors are used to mix the color you selected.
As an example, suppose you want to add a second color checker to the first row. If you look at the bottom layer in the first layer, you can see that it is made by mixing cadmium red and bismuth yellow. Because orange looks like cadmium red, it is made by mixing cadmium red with a little yellow bismuth.

When the color matches, choose the closest color from the color mixing chart that matches your color. Now see which two colors are used to create that color. You can change the value (light or dark) of a color by changing the ratio of the two colors that are mixed.
Value: dark or light color. Every color has value. You can see this if you look at a black and white photo. Lighter colors like yellow are more expensive and darker colors like red are cheaper. Black is the lowest value and white is the highest value.
Shade: The black color obtained when the color (color) is mixed with black. You can mix more or less black to create darkness from light.
Hint: Color is the color you get by mixing color with white. You can get lighter colors by changing the amount of white you mix.
How To Mix Acrylic Paints: Artist’s Guide To Creating Colors
Undertone: If you paint on a white surface, the undertone is visible. Tones may differ from heavy tones because the color is not pure and the same color. Other colored impurities produce different sounds. (e.g. Phthalo is blue in color and has a green tone)
Color Preference: Every color (even primary color) has an aspect to another color because pure colors have subtle colors. (e.g. Phthalo blue has a green side, while green has a green or red color)
Complementary colors: Colors on the opposite side of the color wheel. When complementary colors are mixed, a neutral or muted color is created.
Cool colors: Cool colors are colors that remind you of the sea and water. They include blue, green and purple.

If you want to make the color lighter, mix it with a lighter color. If you want the color to be darker, mix it with a darker color. By mixing color with white, you can make the color lighter and pastel. Use titanium white or use more zinc white to lighten the color.
Titanium white is strong and can easily outshine other colors. White zinc is transparent and not too strong, making it ideal for mixing colors. Every time you mix with white, you dilute its strength and create an unhealthy color.
If you want to create mixed colors, you can try to change the ratio of mixed primary colors after choosing the closest color to your matching color. For example, if you want to mix a sent color with green, you can change the amount of yellow, blue, and red added to the mix.
Remember, the more cool color you add to the mix, the more warm color you add
