Best Color To Paint Brick – Painted brick is always a controversial topic. Some people like it, others consider it a sin to paint over a brick, no matter how ugly or old it looks. Opinions on this matter may differ in different parts of the country, but in our area this is a sore point. However, Henry and I love the look of the painted brick and are planning to use it on the outside as well as in some places inside the new house.
Update: As you can see above, we have finished our new home and finished painting the outside wall. We chose the Sherwin Williams White Duck and we love it! I think this is the perfect white for exterior paint.
Best Color To Paint Brick
The brick painting actually dates back to the 1870s. Bricks in the United States were originally handmade from clay, sand, and water pressed in mills. Then they were dried and burned. The weaker and softer brick houses of some earlier periods require a protective coating. Painting will be carried out here to protect against natural elements such as snow, sleet and ice during the winter months.

You might think that with the addition of extra work and materials, painted bricks will cost more. But this is not true. We plan to use cheap bricks with a good texture. And in most cases, these bricks lend themselves better to painting than more expensive varieties.
Changing Your House Color
Of course, painting bricks can be done by hand and will save you thousands of dollars. This would be easy to do if the house is very small or only partly walled. We decided not to make our current house due to the large amount of square meters and the time costs at the time. I will say that we spent no more on our painted bricks than we would have spent installing a hardboard with regular paint on our exterior.
Painted exterior surfaces will require a new coat of paint over time. So for us it’s not a problem. If we didn’t make painted bricks, we would make Hardie Plank, which would also have a painted surface.
But with a brick, it is important to do everything right first. With a high quality brick primer and brick varnish, you won’t have to repaint as often. I have read that painted bricks need to be repainted every 3 years. It’s very hard for me to believe this. There are several painted brick houses in our area that have not been painted for over 10-15 years and they look amazing.

As I mentioned earlier, we are also planning to make some painted bricks inside the house. One place we plan to do this is in the kitchen.
One area of the kitchen that we always think about the most is the backsplash. If you’re not careful, it’s easy to choose tiles that will quickly become obsolete. Therefore, we think that instead of tiles, we will create an eternal apron from painted bricks. There are thin brick products that can be used for these types of applications.

While we may be a little biased, there are several advantages to painted bricks and perhaps some disadvantages. The biggest plus is how good it looks. For us, painted brick is a timeless, unique look that gives character to a home, whether indoors or outdoors. As I said, from the early days, painted exterior bricks can be the protection for your home’s exterior. When done correctly, a paint job provides a durable finish that provides protection from moisture and mildew. The painted wall is also very easy to clean which is a bonus!
Exterior Gray Paint Colors

The time factor depends on your climate, where you live, and the severity of the natural elements in your area. Another factor to consider is durability. If you have painted a brick, returning it to its original state will be a real challenge.
There are a lot of options for outdoor painting. Personally, we think it depends on the style of the house and the location, but we love both! The darker look is bold and really makes a strong statement. While the lighter look is a bit more sophisticated and timeless. Or using a combination of dark and light on the outside can be the perfect contrast and combination.
In our current home, we decided to do a combination of painting the wall a lighter color, Sherwin Williams White Duck, and the back of the porch, Sherwin Williams Iron Ore. We decided to make a smooth finish of the painted brick facade. Some may object, but we like it! The reason we chose this is because we felt that any glossy finish would make it look like plastic. It wasn’t the scene we were aiming for and we didn’t want it. However, natural brick also looks amazing with the right choice of trim, siding and soffit color. Here we separate various outdoor bricks and paint with painted and unpainted bricks. These projects have won the hearts of our designers and clients.

Great House And Roof Color Combinations
These Benjamin Moore classics are two of our favorite whites. In fact, we named Benjamin Moore’s Seapearl our exterior color of the year. With LRV 77.95 Seapearl is not white. The LRV Plain WhiteIt is 91.7 so it is much brighter. (Find out what LRV is and why it’s important, especially with white paint.) While these similar colors create a monochromatic color scheme, their different tones make little difference. Just White (painted here on the grid) gives off a warm glow that both highlights and contrasts the gray of Seapearl (painted on the wall).
Alabaster by Sherwin Williams is a great choice for brick. This paint color reads differently on textures, making it a great choice for use on a variety of outdoor materials in the home. Our designers used alabaster on the wall, trim and siding in the house above. If you go down this route, we recommend adding volume and depth with darker color accents like Tricorn Black by Sherwin Williams. Tricorn Black was used on the garage doors and front door above. Alabaster is not solid white and Tricorn Black is not solid black, so it’s not a solid black and white checkerboard style combo. This wall and color combination is contemporary and offers a unique drama.
This warm, earthy combination of brick and paint creates a sense of harmony at the front of the home. Instead of being a difference, these paint colors complement each other. The Olympic Mountains take center stage in the brickwork, Sandy Hook Gray adorns the soffits and fascia, and Simply White completes the look by highlighting the finish.
Brick houses with orange clay tile roofs look fresh and modern when the brick is painted in beige or cream.
