How Much To Paint Exterior Brick House
Preparation is a very important major component in ensuring that painted exterior masonry is done correctly. Before doing anything, check and clean the bricks with a vacuum cleaner. A hose, stiff brush, and soapy water work well if the bricks aren’t very dirty.
The Cost To Paint A Brick House
After cleaning, check and fill all cracks with acrylic putty. This will give the exterior paint time to dry before applying it. Now all windows and doors need to be checked and covered with plastic. If necessary, use multiple layers and use painter’s tape to secure.
As with any job, having the right tools will make your job much smoother and easier. You should make sure you have a sprayer or roller that can cover a large area at once. We recommend using a spray. This reduces labor time, provides easy access to all joints, and is generally much easier. However, you need to spray all the corners to get the paint into all the corners of the bricks. This is especially important if you have ground joints like our house.
If you’re using a sprayer, you’ll still need a brush for drips and hard-to-reach areas. Always remember to let the paint dry for at least 4-6 hours before applying a second or third coat.

One of our main “entertainments” during quarantine was walking around the neighborhood looking at different house paints. I have found that many houses look rather rundown when they are painted white (I think). However, there are cases where the color of the surface is over-surfaced and looks dirty. I wanted something that read “true white” as you drive, but in reality it was a bit blurry. Swiss coffee is the perfect color for this. I’m very happy with it. We decided to have all trims and details in contrasting trim instead of white. I am very happy with this choice and believe it helped me update my 1965 home without it being “until 2020”.
