First of all: The color of white paint is not white. To understand, you need to understand LRV.
My (updated) White Paint Guide
The Light Reflectance Value or LRV of any paint is a number assigned based on the amount of light it reflects, with 0 being absolute black and 100 being pure white. The higher the number, the more light is reflected.
However, no white paint has an LRV of 100. Sherwin Williams High Reflective White (which is one of the brightest white paints you can get) is 93. Anything 80 or higher is considered white, and “white” can be from ~ 70 to 80. So you have to ask yourself how bright (closer to LRV 90) or softer than white (closer to LRV 80) want your white.
And when talking about “soft” white, colors (i.e. tints) are added to soften bright whites, less bright whites. “White” paint has additional colors:
First, you need to consider the style. In general, warm whites will help create a sense of comfort and work well with more traditional spaces. Cool whites, on the other hand, tend to be sharper and more sophisticated. This is a generalization, but a good starting point if you know you prefer a more classic or more contemporary setting.

Second, you should consider the natural light in the room. A north-facing room (at least in the northern hemisphere) has a slightly cooler light, while a south-facing room has a warmer light. So if your room faces north, you’ll want to choose a slightly warmer white paint to offset the cold natural light. And vice versa for south facing rooms.
Rooms facing east or west are difficult because the quality of light in these rooms changes throughout the day, but suffice it to say that the evening light in a room facing west is often orange or pink. This can be difficult if the light entering your home is filtered by many nearby trees or buildings that can reflect color back into your home.
Finally, you should test the color of the board. White paint is especially sensitive to the color of the light, the floor, and other elements in the space… so I always try 2-3 colors before doing it. It’s worth the extra effort!
