In the past it was believed that painting your house in Revere Pewter would guarantee a quick sale. And maybe it does! This belief alone was a huge selling point, making every homeowner and merchant turn to this magical color over another painting.
Because it was so popular, many people now mix RP with it from time to time (about 10/12 years ago). So you may have heard that it is now the color of paint.
But you can use Revere Pewter in your home 100% successfully in 2022 and still make it work!
What you really want to know is whether or not this paint will work in YOUR space.

It might seem counterintuitive that a paint with green undertones would be considered warm – isn’t green a cool color? Well, that depends on which green you’re talking about! In the case of Revere Pewter, the undertone is contrasted with olive green, a warm green. So the color appears as a warm greige.
It seems to have a slight green glow to it, giving you an earthy, desolate, wet and low feeling. If this is something that worries you, then you might want to stay away from this paint! It depends on how you feel about the color!

I also advise against using Revere Pewter in a room with pink tiles or carpet. Color works in relation to the colors around it. Because red and green are complementary colors, if you mix green paint with pink undertones, your walls will end up looking too green and your floor pink.

If the combination of modern colors I mentioned above does not work for your situation, but you still want to be modern, it is still possible to use Revere Pewter: I would recommend combining it with a heavy dose of white.

Also, be sure to check what items are in your cabinets and other items in your home when choosing your paint color.
Revere Pewter’s LRV sits at 55.51, so it’s in the middle in terms of how much light the color reflects, and how much light it absorbs.

However, if you’re considering Revere Pewter for a room that doesn’t get a lot of light, remember that this color doesn’t reflect crazy light (since it’s in the middle and LRV range).
So if you want to brighten up your room, this might not be the best paint choice – you’ll want to choose a paint with a high LRV (paint over 60+ LRV).
Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray has a higher LVV than Revere Pewter, which sits at 60, meaning it is lighter in color and reflects more light.
In short, Revere Pewter is slightly green and warm, and Agreeable Gray is bright and cool. If you hold the two samples side by side, it can look like a big difference. However, on a large wall, these colors will look different! So choose carefully 🙂

Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige also has a slightly higher LVV than Revere Pewter, coming in at 58. So the paint is always a little shiny. It has a pinkish/grey underside.
The main difference between the two greiges is that Accessible Beige is a warmer gray than Revere Pewter.
I’ve seen Revere Pewter work really well in homes that like traditional decor. The soft, warm yet finished quality of gray paint really compliments curved furniture, moldings and rich wood tones.

Although RP is not the new “paint kid” on the block, there are still plenty of matching opportunities in today’s color schemes.
I have to be honest with you, my favorite place to use Revere Pewter these days is not on the wall, but actually on the cabinet!
Greige cabinets work well with crisp white walls, brass accents and black window frames. In the kitchen, combined with the marble counter, it also looks beautiful.

Paint your doors with RP and combine them with a warm white beauty – it’s like what Zenia from Stylea did at home, and it looks amazing! He used Sherwin Williams paint called Into the Gloaming, which is very similar to Revere Pewter.
This homeowner decided to do all of his interior fixtures and doors in Revere Pewter, and kept the walls white. This is an interesting and original idea, because many people are used to seeing the opposite, that is, cutting white on colored walls.
A note about the trim color above: I don’t know what it is! The house in the picture is not mine, and I didn’t take the paint colors, so I can’t say for sure what the white paint on the trim is. I tried looking online for records of what color was used to trim and couldn’t find any information. I would have included it if I had known! My suggestion is to take this picture to your local professional painter and ask them what they think, their guess is as good as mine! Then take samples and test things in real life. Never put paint options on pictures.
Revere Pewter is neither gray nor beige; it’s called “greige” in paint! In dark rooms it looks very green, in light rooms it looks neutral, warm gray.

It makes sense, and if you’ve read this post, you’ll know that the answer to this question depends on many different factors! I personally find RP much darker than greige. If you feel that way but really like the color, you can always try going 50% lighter and see if that works better for you.
