I hope this article was helpful in your home decorating process and that you can reduce the blue gray in your living room, bedroom, nursery or bathroom. How a new paint color will look on a wall will vary depending on how natural and natural it is. There is artificial light in the room every day. The last time we talked about the bedroom, I showed off our newly wallpapered ceiling. That wallpaper is really the focal point of the rest of this room. With that piece of paper in hand, I can start imagining the rest of the room. To me, the cream, gold and blue wallpaper looks cool, but when it’s placed on the ceiling, surrounded by a sea of white ceiling paint, it kind of gets lost. I know a new blue-gray paint on the walls is the way to really make the wallpaper shine!
The Best 5 Blue Gray Paint Colors — Tag & Tibby Design
First, I had to choose a new blue-gray paint color for the walls and ceiling. We had a lot of crazy snow here in Chicago (it was a crazy winter!) Of course we had a huge snowstorm the day I wanted some paint samples. However, I am not discouraged by this! I put on my ski gear and head to our local Benjamin Moore store. Luckily, it’s only a few blocks away!
I had wallpaper swatches with me and was trying to find a blue-gray paint color to go with it. Often, if I’m trying to find a paint color to match a specific cabinet color, swatch, or other design element, I’ll just have the paint store match the swatch. They just put it under the scanner and the boom…you have your paint matches! But because the blue in this wallpaper is so small, they couldn’t find a perfect match by scanning. (Note: I spoke to Erin the wallpaper designer later and she told me that the blue is actually Benjamin Moore’s “Blue Springs”. Well, I had already painted the room at the time. But if you want to compare.. In the future, now you know!)
So my game plan is to look at the swatches and find a light blue with a warm color underneath. I didn’t want it to read too purple or too cold. Instead, a light blue-gray with some warmth is my end goal! I looked at the color swatches and brought back four paint swatches to test on the walls.
I always like to paint my swatches directly on the wall and place them in various places in the room. I know some people draw swatches or swatches and move them around the room, but I really like seeing the colors on the walls. I’ve never had a problem painting over a swatch and seeing the original color underneath, so this works best for me. The same goes for this project. I did not sand or prime the samples with this project. I just paint on them.
The 25 Best Calming Paint Colors
After seeing the swatches on the wall, I decided that Benjamin Moore’s “Boothbay Grey” would work for me. Not too purple, not too gray, with a touch of warmth. Yeah!
Remember this recent blog post about common drawing mistakes? I talked about how people often don’t consider gloss when choosing a paint. Since I knew I wanted to paint the ceiling and walls at the same time, I decided to use two different sheens of the exact same color.
For the ceiling, I chose matte because our ceiling had some imperfections and I knew that a more glossy sheen would only accentuate them more. For the walls, I chose eggshell because I like a little sheen on the walls and it’s very durable. (Note: I also chose the best paint that BM carries, which is their Aura line. I think the brand is more important than the paint itself. Choose the best you can afford. In the end, I went from a gallon to- wall and a gallon. limit).
I talked to the guy at the paint store about the best way to use two different sheens on the same color. He said he would paint the ceiling first (two coats) and it would be fine if the matte coincided with the walls. He then asked me to cut the eggshells off the ceiling and paint the walls normally. So this is exactly what I did.

Before I start painting, I prepare the room. Finn and I removed the old mattress and box spring; I removed the headboard and frame; and cleaned any dust bunnies hiding behind the furniture.
My Dyson vacuum with the small attachment is the perfect companion for removing all the dust from the baseboards behind the furniture. It feels so good to clean up a space! Once all the dust was gone, I removed the outlets and vents and used masking tape around the windows and doors.
Then finally it was time to paint. I followed the paint store clerk’s instructions…painting the ceiling first and then going down. I was too nervous to tape the wallpaper for fear of tearing or messing it up, so I ended up cutting the wallpaper slowly. It took some time, but it was worth it.
I’ve found that using a roller extender has really helped me. I just need to climb the ladder to cut the wallpaper. The rest of the roof and the high parts of the walls are finished with rollers. This saved me some time, but the project still took me all day, all by myself. My mom took Rory to her cousin’s house and they left at 8:00 in the morning. I was cleaning when they came back at 5pm. It took so long! I watched the whole season
Bedroom Paint Colors
This is my back looking up at the ceiling as if I were lying in bed. Isn’t that cool? I’m really glad I got that paint color onto the edge of the wallpaper because now it’s really taking over the majority of this room. It stands out and adds such a unique element to the design.
Before I thought the black fan was too loud against all the white and cream. Now I think it works well with the new blue gray paint color. This contrasts with the warmer tones in the paint and wallpaper.
I took these pictures the morning after sunrise and I think they reflect the true color of this paint as you see it. It’s not gray at all to me, but very blue, maybe read
