So I’m more than happy to dig through my spray paint stash to show you my favorite golden paint color.
Gold paint varies greatly. While doing this experiment, I tried a few different colors and I was blown away by the variety of shades of gold paint.
I narrowed this experiment down to 7 golden paint cans, each from a thrift store, each with their own unique look!

We tested tons of spray paints to find the perfect gold paint for your next project!
I bought these spray paints at Lowes or Home Depot. I painted my swatches on these wooden circles.
To make this review as fair as possible, I painted all the paints at the same time under the same conditions.
All photos were taken at the same time under indirect natural light, without color editing.

Spray paints come in a variety of glosses, from matte to glossy, depending on how glossy or matte the finish is.
All of these spray paints come in different sheens, so be careful when shopping to get the sheen you want.
There’s no right or wrong, but gloss paint will show more dents, scratches or scuffs than matte gold spray paint.
Gold paint can be a solid color (sometimes called brushed gold spray paint), and metallic paint has small, shiny particles that look like glitter.

Metallic paint is great for painting metal, glass, or anything else you want to shine and shine.
If you’re looking for something that looks like real gold, I’d recommend a warm gold with a touch of metallic. The original gold paint I tried was the Colorshot Treasure Chest!
For a shiny finish, choose a gold spray paint with a shiny finish. Look for the keyword METALLIC on the label, indicating that it will glow.
If you want a shiny finish, I don’t recommend a clear coat over golden paint. The clear topcoat has a matte, matte finish!

This warm gold has almost orange undertones. It’s definitely the most fake looking gold, but as such, it’s perfect for Halloween costumes or anywhere you want to be visibly gold.
Colorshot’s Cheers are a completely different shade of gold! It has a very light and silver quality. It can actually be read as rose gold if paired correctly.
I love the coverage provided by the ColorShot paint (which I think is very high quality) and I think the slim jar is easy to handle.

This is a great option if you’re looking for a bright rose gold paint option.
It has a lot of silver shimmer which makes it very shiny and has a metallic finish.
This is another beautiful medium golden shade. However, it is not a very bright gold and has a muted color.
It has a lot of silver in it – not shiny, but silver paint. It is available in metallic finish.

This color has a light coverage, so plan to apply a little more or shake the pan to make sure all the paint is evenly mixed.
In the right light, when I painted it on the wood, it almost looked like oak gold.
If you’re looking for a deep, muted copper or deep gold finish, this is a great choice.
Want bling? This is it! It is a very shiny metallic gold color. This is the most typical gold.
Best Gold Spray Paint For Your Next Project
This is a very dull, pastel, almost golden color. It has a lot of beige, not yellow or orange.
This color has silver flecks but no shimmer. It’s not sparkly or sparkly at all.
I find this color fades easily so be sure to use a light coat for coverage.

I gave each to a friend, and the two became inseparable throughout the trial, or at least until I could label the horses according to which paint. I’ve used Design Master (which I got at Michael’s), Krylon, Rustoleum, and Valspar – it probably failed me quickly.
Whose first impression does a rose make? what! I’m personally a new fan of design guru. It has a very light orange/rose shimmer. But let’s take a closer look. To me, these four fall into two categories: Bronze/Gold and Bronze/Bronze. The most brassy gold is the master designer of Rastolium.
Krylon and Valspar are too bronze for “gold” applications. However, I use them because I own them. I am clearer now. That’s what it’s about. I also noticed that Krylon was at its worst. While the rest looks smooth and flawless – Krylon has all sorts of issues. Of course, this could be human error. But three out of four is almost perfect. Well.
The Best Gold Spray Paint Out There!
