Valspar Paint Colors Gray – It’s no secret that I love gray and Valspar ink. I never thought there was a particular brand of ink that I liked, but over the years I always buy Valspar. It’s affordable and looks great in our house and on our textured walls. Since updating the color scheme in our house, I tried MANY Valspar grays before settling on the perfect shade, Seashell Gray.

Since I got so many grays, a few stood out as my favorites. Gray is a complex color and each color is so different for individual houses. Samples are key! I liked how Tempered Gray looked in the store and on Pinterest, but it was too purple in our house.

Some grays can look too purple or too blue. Then you have to use these samples to find the perfect one! And if you find the perfect one for your home, you can even use the same colors from the same swatch. Our wall colors (Seashell Grey) and our interior door color (Filtered Shade) are in the same pattern. And when I was doing our fireplace, I planned to paint it Rocky Bluffs because I knew it would look great in our house. They are also in the same pattern. I’m sure you know by now that I’m a loyal painter and have been with Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams (especially Ben and Shermo) for years. However, when Lowes came to town, I was very excited about Valspar and their color range. I ordered a fan deck and a week later Val and I were officially engaged.

And btw: No photos – it’s true. I’m committed to only showing photos of my client’s homes on E-Design, and I haven’t used Valspar on anyone yet – but the INFO still applies, so read on! If you’re interested in photos, check out the blog posts listed at the end of this article.

Now, I’m still learning a lot about these colors (seriously, the learning never stops), but I wanted to share my FOUR FAVORITE light grays with you since I’m featuring this color range on my blog for the first time…

This is probably my favorite gray in the Valspar line. Notre Dame is the perfect depth – not too light, not too dark and has a very subtle undertone, it’s just a soft, subtle, slightly cool gray that has just a hint of cool green undertone. Not cold and icy, just cool tones.

Gravity is a cool gray with a slight purple undertone and is probably the coolest of them all. Warm purples can lean towards the pinkish side, cool purples towards bluish – this one is cool. Compare this bad boy to Notre Dame and you’ll see the pop tone. That doesn’t mean you’ll have “purple” walls, you won’t, but like most grays, you’ll have some.

Tempered Gray is a cool gray with a subtle stone look (not stone…stone) that gives it a slightly more earthy look compared to the fresh, clean look of Gravity.

I love it (but really, is there anything I don’t like? Filtered Shade is a beautiful light gray with a slightly warm undertone (without looking too gray). Out of the 4, it’s the prettiest with a little girly and mauve-brown undertone UBER .

And I’d appreciate it if you could keep my love affair with Valspar a secret. Ben and Sherm can be sensitive about these things, so I’ll keep it a secret for now. Just kidding – they don’t really know I exist (like most of my fake friends growing up) and I don’t get anything to push their scars – I just love them!

In recent years, gray has become the new neutral choice over beige. There are so many variations of gray that this sexy neutral has gone from boring and lifeless to a color that many choose to use in their homes in a cohesive palette.

But if you’re looking for your perfect gray, you’ll no doubt notice that there is very little true gray out there, and it’s probably one of the hardest colors to achieve.

Gorgeous Gray Paint Colors

Compare gray swatches side by side and you’ll find that the more you look at them, the more it looks like some aren’t even gray! They can appear blue, yellow, brown or even greenish.

The first color your eye will see is the stucco tone. It is the dominant color that leads him to encounter Valspar’s giant wall of colors.

Each color also has a tone. An undertone is a drop of color that accentuates the bulk tone.

There are cool and warm tones. Cool tones are blue, green and purple. Warm tones are yellow, orange and red. Cool undertones will make your gray ink a cool gray, while warm undertones will make your gray ink a warm gray.

Here’s a little look at Valspar’s grayscale collection… Together, it’s easy to see that all of these grays have undertones. When you look at the colors individually, it’s a little harder to find the tone. But we have some tips to help you avoid decorating disasters.

Choose a color card on which a certain shade of gray catches your eye. Choose a card with a gray color scale (not a single color, but with 5-6 shades). If you’re having trouble finding an old drawing, look for the Little Greene Gray trading card.

When you look at the lighter tones, you see blues/greens etc, the tones are not that simple. But it’s much easier to see the darker tones, so go to a deeper tone and you’ll see the tones immediately.

For example, do any of the shades of gray on the card appear to have a blue appearance? In this case, all the gray colors on the card are cold.

If no other dominant suit catches your eye in the card you are holding, check the next set of suit cards in the same column on the suit wall. Specific colors should start to jump out at you.
