You are a tenant of a building and the building is under construction. What can you learn about apartments by looking at the drawings? Here are some things you can learn from a floor plan:
If the rental building is in a desirable location, tenants are willing to pay a higher price, and the building will have a lower unit turnover rate. Walkability is a strong focus for tenants, with prime destinations including grocery stores, businesses and restaurants/cafes.
The site plan shows the address of the building and the location of the building in relation to others on the property. It also indicates the apartment’s proximity to on-site parking and communal facilities. For tenants with cars, safe and reliable parking is a big issue, and off-street parking is especially important. The Northline apartment floor plan shows the location offers off-street parking and garage parking on the ground floor.
By looking at the floor plan, you can make sure that the apartment is open and airy. You can see the relationship between rooms and know whether the layout of common areas is open or cramped.

Storage on your device is also important for storing clothes, files, and holiday decorations. Floor plans can help you determine if these key features are available.
Tenants are happy to be able to go outside for a moment in the fresh air or have a barbecue. Apartment balconies and terraces will be indicated on the floor plans. Each development may offer communal areas for barbecuing and walking the dog, so ask about these or check the communal areas plan.
Additional key elements include things you might not see on an architectural floor plan. This includes safety and green policies such as recycling and energy efficiency. Ask the marketing manager if the apartment has cable TV or high speed internet.

Natural light is important for everyone. Perhaps you want an apartment with southern exposure to get maximum sunlight. Or you choose a room without direct sunlight and look for a north-facing unit. You want to know which direction the apartment faces. Exposure can usually be determined by looking at the north arrow at the bottom of the drawing. North is usually in a floor plan, so rooms facing the top of the drawing face north.
Floor plans will help you see where the windows are. It will help to arrange the furniture or feel the view opening from the apartment. Many require the property manager to look at the building’s elevation plans to determine window sizes.

By looking at the actual dimensions of the room and the hallway, you will know if your California king size bed will fit.

The master bedroom is located in the south east corner. Master bedroom bathroom is west facing. The children’s room is located in the southeast corner. The living room is towards the eastern corner. The balcony is placed in north direction.
