This pavilion has a post frame structure made of 6×6 and 6×8. The pavilion has a sloping roof with generous overhangs on all sides. The pavilion base is 24’x24′. When buying wood, planks should be selected very carefully, making sure that they are straight and free of visible defects (cracks, knots, bends, corrosion). Investing in cedar or other weathered wood is a good idea because it will pay off in the long run. Before adding the galvanized screws, use a level to connect and align the components. Otherwise the plan will not look symmetrical. If you have all the materials and tools you need for your project, you can complete the job in about a day.
20 X 24 Pavilion Plans
First, place the pillars of the 24×24 pavilion. Use a typeboard and string to determine the position of the poles. Apply the 3-4-5 rule to all corners of the pavilion so that they are at right angles. Make sure the diagonals are equal. Determining the location of the pavilion is important as local building codes must be followed. Make sure the surface is level and remove the vegetative layer.

Dig a 3 foot hole in the ground and make sure it is 16 inches in diameter. Thread the tube into the ground and level the poles. Fill the hole with concrete and insert the post anchors. Align the anchors with each other and allow the concrete to harden for several days.
Lag screws are used to secure the posts to the anchors. Before pouring the concrete, make sure that the tops of the columns are level with each other. If you want to use a laser and cut to the top of the post, use a circular saw.
We use 6×8 lumber for the top rail. Mark the cut line on the beam, then cut with a circular saw and chisel. Set the circular saw to 3 5/8″ and cut parallel to the marked area. Clean the grooves with a chisel and sandpaper.
Attach the top rails to the side of the pavilion. Note the 16-inch overhang at the front of the pavilion. Drill a pilot hole through the plate and insert an 8″ screw to secure it to the post. Use 2 screws for each joint. Make sure the corners are square and connect the posts vertically.
X20′ Gable Pavilion Plans Diy Wooden Pavilion
Attach the 6×8 cross plate to the pavilion. Level the edges and drill pilot holes. Add a 10″ screw to secure the cross plate to the side beam. Lock the girders to the posts using post-to-post connectors.
Make brackets out of 6×6 lumber for the front and back of the pavilion. Use a miter saw to make 45 degree cuts on both sides of the brace. After connecting vertically, attach the brackets to the posts. Drill pilot holes and insert 5 1/2″ screws to secure the brackets.
If it’s a pavilion, attach 6×6 supports to the back. Attach the posts and secure with two L brackets and two 1/2″ structural screws. This pavilion has a 3:12 roof pitch, so you need to resize the pavilion to change the slope. Next, place a support in the middle of the crossbeam. Secure in place with two L brackets and two 1/2″ construction screws.
For ridge beams, 6 × 8 lumber is used. Cut both ends of the beam for decoration (optional). Check the 16″ side overhangs and align everything carefully. Make sure the corners are square. Secure the ridge beam with post-to-beam connectors and 2 1/2″ structural screws.
X24′ Hip Roof Pavilion W/ Integrated Self Contained Power
Use 6×6 lumber for the top ridge bracing, cut 45 degrees on both sides of the bracing and secure to the frame of the pavilion with 5 1/2″ screws. Drill a pilot hole before inserting the screws to prevent splitting the wood.
Align the brackets with the mid-ridge beam as shown. Drill pilot holes and insert 5 1/2″ screws. Mentally connect the supports before inserting the screws.

Make sure all joints are tight and edges are aligned. Fill the hole with wood putty and smooth the surface with 120-220 grit sandpaper. Stain/paint the wood a few times to protect it from the elements and give the mandap a beautiful look.
