2000 Sq Ft Log Cabin – For more than 20 years, Lenore Campbell and Leo Timms vacationed in a log cabin on Deep Creek Lake in western Maryland. They were in love with a house whose design is the defining element of the decor itself.
The emotional appeal of a log home led them to build their own five years ago on a pastoral plot of land in Moncton, MA. The warmth of the wooden enclosures gives IBM retirees a sense of inclusion in their home.

The couple’s traditional home has a wide front porch, where Campbell eats a hot breakfast, and a side porch that leads to the garage in the back.

The interior features interesting bare logs, an open kitchen-dining-living room with a stone fireplace and large ceiling beams. Pairs of Navajo rugs hang on rails that overlook the two-story living room.
The house, built of evenly spaced pine logs, covers 4 1/2 acres, with a hand-hewn log cabin about 150 years old and about 20 square feet.
With a rustic look, log cabins and cabin-style homes exude comfort. The cabins are reminiscent of a simple way of life in harmony with nature, the romance of crossing borders and the history of many countries.
Their consistent style is reflected in more than 25,000 new people who show up in the United States every year. Even as full-time rooms, some on the smaller side, they have an escape atmosphere.
The Top 3 Most Luxurious Log Homes
“They’re conceptually implausible,” said Dale Molfinger, a Minneapolis architect and author of “Cabinology,” a recently published book about homes.
Log cabins and parts of them are often considered humble shelters that are so small that the smell of breakfast wakes you up as coffee makers and pans are in action dozens of feet from your nose.
But cabins often include sprawling campgrounds in New York’s Adirondack Mountains, as well as small cabins around lakes in the Upper Midwest and mountain cabins in Colorado ski country.
“A cabin now can be 8,000 square feet,” said Eric Johnson, owner of Solidwood Promotions, an upstate New York company that stages wood shows and log homes around the country.

But all cabin-style homes have this in common: “It is defined by a space that is flexible and used in many ways.” There is more of a common room,” Molfinger said.
“An 8-inch diameter group has an insulation value of R-21,” said Andy Kramer, owner of Moncton Manor Specialties, a builder of Campbell Tims manufactured by Heritage Log Homes in Tennessee. This value is equal to or higher than conventional wall insulation.
Whether the structure is built by hand or the materials are manufactured in a factory and shipped in advance, labor is required, or the result is expensive wood.
Builders also said hybrid designs — homes that combine log, wood frame, post and beam construction methods — are drawing interest from buyers.

The most expensive and sought-after are the hand-built houses, which are hand-carved and hand-glued logs of various diameters, using methods dating back hundreds of years.
The difference for the consumer … is the difference between buying a cup of coffee at a department store and going to Potter’s to buy one,” said Donald L. Brimhurst, an artisan from Pennsylvania.
Cheaper, but still around $150 or more per square foot, are more popular houses built by companies that design the structure and provide the materials, some, all or none pre-cut for assembly.
Campbell and Tims houses, for example, are made of evenly spaced logs that are joined in a tongue and groove arrangement, but also have vertical fasteners.
Log Cabin Style House Plans
These homes don’t go up overnight, though: a 2,000-3,000-square-foot cabin can take an experienced crew six months to build.
Companies offer technical support and DIY workshops, but manufacturers warn that the time to build your own house is extraordinary. Log houses ranging from 1,000 to 2,000 square feet are very popular. Within this square meter, typically 1 to 3 bedrooms, a large open room, and an open loft (optional) can be built. Two popular designs for this size home are the Montana Log Home Design and the Chili Log Home Design. Both wooden houses were built in a log style. One has a handcrafted wooden roof system, and the other has a milled roof system. Both have open lofts and both designs face each other.
This is one of our favorite projects. It is a custom design by Mike Lemon. This log cabin has a large loft with 12′ gables on both sides, a great room, a first floor master suite and a covered front porch, and a back deck (dened). The home explores an open loft above the 2nd and 3rd bedrooms, hallway and bathroom, leaving a chapel above the master suite at the east end of the home.
Trunk size is 8 inches with full saddle carved edges. The log roof system is made from hand-cut logs of large diameter. The attached attic is framed and lined with suitable log cladding. Support posts, railings and stairs are also handmade logs. This home sits overlooking the Madison Mountain range that surrounds Ennis, Montana.

The chalet house design featured front, upper balconies on each side, wrap around decks, gable and front roof skylights. The covered patio allows for pleasant evenings outside. The upper balconies also allow you to enjoy the view of the lake and the mountains that surround this log cabin.
The chalet is built of 9 inch Swedish coop logs with a hand peeled knife finish. The log roof system is 10 inches in diameter. Gables are solid stacked logs. The arch has an angle of about 33% and consists of a column and the front part of the beam.

All projected costs, cost estimates, material costs and estimated construction/construction costs are the opinion of Cowboy Log Homes only and are derived from our experience. Each home is designed according to the individual wishes and desires of our clients. The construction of a log or log home is based on two basic costs: materials provided by the log company and construction costs contracted with Cowboy Log Homes as the builder or another builder of the customer’s choice. Final prices are obtained and negotiated with each order. Cowboy Log Homes is just the “glue” that helps hold the two together to bring the client’s project to completion. * Please note that photos and elevations may vary slightly from the plans. When it comes to log houses, especially when you add the modular aspect, we always get a lot of great questions from our customers. Don’t they burn faster than a normal house if they catch fire? No, just the opposite! Are they energetic? Yes, actually more than a house! But the number one question we get every time is “How much does it cost to build a log house?”

Each facility has different requirements and each piece of land has different zoning or environmental restrictions. Most permits require a site plan and may require engineer septic drawings. Our expert construction consultants can help you with the permit process.
A custom home design plan is great, but no one can accurately estimate a home plan and you can’t apply for permits until the structural engineering plans are ready. The design and engineering process is usually at least $35,000.00.
At Blue Ridge Log Cabins Canada, we include engineering costs in our home prices! So when you buy a Blue Ridge log home, we already include the cost of engineering in your total square footage cost.
