Exterior Paint Colors For Light Brick Homes
This traditional two story red brick home has beautiful architectural lines – just needs fresh accents to modernize and dress it up. Benjamin Moore Paint Colors provided a fresh color palette: River Pewter on the trim, Dragon’s Breath to stain the wood trim, and black on the windows. Dark paint on the roof, a new wooden garage door and copper gutters are beautiful finishing touches.
Our Favorite Green Exterior House Colors
This red brick farmhouse style is a classic found in American neighborhoods built after World War II. Modernizing the porch with new materials made the most sense to bring it into the 21st century. Our designers also recommended removing the shutters (because they were not the right size) and updating the windows and front door. The trim tones below contrast with Sharon Williams’ urban bronze, combined with wood accents and copper gutters, further undercutting the curb appeal.
This traditional two-storey house has a second floor jutting out with a Tudor-style facade that felt a little dated and unfinished. We recommend the new Hardee® Panel Vertical Sideing in Benjamin Moore’s Graphite for a color-blocked look. River look on the cladding accentuates the roofline. A new portico over the front door and a raised path lead the eye to the front door.
A few simple updates have breathed new life into this beautiful traditional two-story. Paint siding and trim in Benjamin Moore’s cherry charcoal and onyx windows, gutters, new double front doors and metal awnings contrast the natural red brick. A ceiling that is darker than the original color ties everything together.
Another beautiful traditional home that has been given a makeover with simple updates. New modern black grill windows and some sun shades add a touch of modernity. Then, wood gable accents and an elegant double front door combined with copper gutters emphasize the home’s layers. Finally, a bluestone walkway and new front steps keep things grounded.
All About Exterior Paint
This modern home has a deep red brick that lends itself well to wood paneling. We recommended using a composite wood fiber from Woodtone under the gable. Black and Charcoal Gray comes with a new roof, contemporary garage doors, exterior lighting family and trim offered in Benjamin Moore’s Onyx. Finally, we recommended new James Hardie standard vertical siding on the upper level, painted in Benjamin Moore’s Rockport Gray.
This beautiful historic red brick home has received a makeover with some deliberate updating. First we recommended new maroon windows and a new double steel door. Other dark accents include an X-style porch rail between the existing brick columns and a Bahama-style shutter on the window set to the left of the entry. Bevolo’s classic brass lighting pays homage to the past. Finally, Tivertino panels modernize the front door to the ceiling.
The bright red brick felt more contrasting than the stark white accents of this traditional mid-century farmhouse. Plus, there was a lot going on with the black shingle siding, dark blue front door, and dated gray shingle roof. We recommend keeping the color palette muted and letting the brick shine. The new metal roof is an unusual warm gray that brings out the copper gutters and exterior lighting, as well as the beautiful new wooden front door. We added an eyebrow roof over the garage for interest. Benjamin Moore’s Yellow Oak has new trim, eaves, underside and garage door. And the new Hardee® roof tile trim, painted in Rockport Gray, brightens the porch area.
Moving into more modern design territory is the new exterior design of this split level home. The red brick accent is high on this facade as the siding dominates the upper level. We recommended replacing the old siding with Hardie® Panel vertical siding and painting it – and the chimney – in Benjamin Moore’s Graphite. Trim and overhangs are done in Sharon Williams’ Tricorn Black, which plays well with the black lighting family, garage door, windows and new chimney cap. Wood and copper accents bring natural elements that bring out the warmth of the brick.

As you can see, many traditional red brick homes were originally paired with bright white siding and trim—a color palette we prefer to tone down a few notches. On this house, we recommended Benjamin Moore’s Candle Charcoal on the siding with yellow oak on the trim. The entrance has been given a major upgrade with beautiful new wooden double doors, a beautiful frame and overhang, a viewing screen and a fresh stone and tile path.
We have offered this large traditional red brick home with an exterior design that includes modern touches: new garage doors, updated lighting and a fresh front porch overhang. We proposed a new James Hardie trim around the central two-story windows to highlight them, painted in Benjamin Moore’s Winterwood. Onyx on the finish provides contrast. Warm stone cladding forms the foundation of the home and we also used it to wrap around the fireplace for added interest.
We love limewash. It is a good compromise between painting the brick and leaving it natural. The red brick on the lower half of this house is painted with Romabio lime using Benjamin Moore’s Chaparral. Limewash gives you the flexibility to show some of the natural color of your brick as shown above. It also works well on brick paths! Here we paired the whitewash with the full Benjamin Moore color palette: Sepral again on the siding, plain white on the trim, see-dough on the shutters, and black on the new front door.
As you can see in these examples, red brick houses don’t have to feel dated. You don’t even have to paint your red brick if you like it but want a little more modern curb appeal. Basically, you can have your cake and eat it too. It’s our job to tell you.
Exterior Paint Color Combos (and How To Pick Them)
Red brick can be beautiful. It can also be difficult. Therefore, it makes sense to work with an expert when you plan an exterior renovation of your red brick house. We would love to work with you to make your attraction dreams come true! Get started today. Brick adds a distinctive element to any home. The VARS approach is a five-step approach to choosing a pleasing color palette for your home’s exterior. When you use innovative thinking to select the right color for each element—roofing, siding, doors, windows, shutters, trim, and accents—you create a consistent look that appeals.
There are many things to consider when choosing exterior colors for your home, with fixed features having the biggest impact.
Look at the fixed features of any attractive home and you will begin to see a repetition of the tone. This duplication allows different materials and textures to work well together. This is especially important for a house with a full or partial brick exterior.
Great House And Roof Color Combinations
When choosing colors for the exterior of your brick home, look for colors that match or complement the primary brick color or color scheme. All the colors must be coordinated with the bricks to create the best look. If you are building a new home, first choose the bricks and then create a color scheme that will enhance this feature.
Discoloration is a term used when talking about stone, brick, roofing or other materials. Usually, these main elements of the house exterior are not solid colors, but a mixture of colors. To describe these materials as solid colors would not do them justice, as beauty lies in color variations. The term “color discolouration” describes the dominant color in a material that consists of different colors. Color cast is a term that has its roots in photography and describes the overall color discoloration in a photographic image caused by sunlight or incandescent light.
Then consider the other four new steps. You can get the details.
