16 X 16 Pavilion Plans – This 16×16 wood frame plan has an 8 inch pitch roof and uses a simple but effective roof system that allows anyone to cut and erect this lovely frame. The 256 square meter structure would make a wonderful garden shed, artist studio or, if left open, a dining shed.

When buying wood, choose the board very carefully, make sure that it is smooth and without visible defects (cracks, knots, twists, rot). Investing in cedar or other weather-resistant woods is a good idea as it will pay off in the long run. Use a level to place the elements vertically and connect before placing the galvanized screws, otherwise the structure will not look symmetrical. First, place the posts for the 16 x 16 shed. Use floured boards and string to determine the position of the posts. Apply the 3-4-5 rule to each corner of the shed to ensure they are at the right angle. Make sure the diagonals are equal. Determining the location of the shed is important as the building regulations of the area must be followed. Make sure the surface is level and remove the layer of vegetation.

Dig a 3-foot hole in the ground to make sure they are about 12 inches in diameter. Fix the pipes and then the posts in the ground and adjust to the level. Use temporary braces to make sure the posts are locked while you fill the holes with concrete. Allow the cement to dry for several days. Read the local codes for more information on protecting your posts.

Use wood screws to secure the posts to the anchors. Before pouring the concrete, make sure the tops of the posts are level with each other. Use a laser to mark the top level of the bar and use a circular saw if you need to make cuts.

Use 6×8 lumber for the rails. Mark the cut lines on the beam and then make cuts with a circular saw and chisel. Smooth the surface with sandpaper. Use 6×8 lumber for the remaining rails. Set the saw blade to 3 5/8″, then cut the corresponding sections within the marked areas. Clean the cut with a chisel and sandpaper.

Attach the top railing to the side of the shed. Note the 16″ overhangs at the front and rear of the shed. Drill pilot holes in the sheet metal and insert 8-inch screws to fasten them to the posts. Use 2 screws for each connection. Make sure the corners are square and align the posts vertically.

Attach the cross boards to the shed. Place the edges evenly and drill guide holes. Install 10″ screws to securely fasten the cross plates.

Build the front and back supports of the shed from 6 x 6 lumber. Use a miter saw to make 45-degree cuts on both ends of the post. Fix linking to posts after placing them vertically. Drill the pilot holes and install the 5 1/2″ screws to securely attach the harness.

Place the 6 x 6 posts on top of the shed. Place the brackets using a spirit level. Use column beam connectors to connect the supports to the frame of the shed. Attach the 6 × 8 beam to the supports with column-to-beam connectors. Make sure the corners are square. Use 2 1/2″ construction bolts to fasten the fasteners in place.

Use 6×6 lumber for the trusses. Make a 45 degree cut on both ends of the joint. Attach the harness with 5 1/2″ screws. Drill pilot holes before inserting the screws.

Fill the holes with wood putty and let it dry for a few hours. Sand the surface with 100-220 grit sandpaper and remove the residue with a damp cloth.

Use 2×6 lumber for the rafters. Use a miter saw to make the board cuts. Smooth the edges with sandpaper. Make cuts to the rafters as shown in the plan. Mark the lines before cutting.

Using the information in the diagram, arrange the rafters on top of the shed. It is important to place the rafters properly (every 16 inches on center), otherwise it will not be possible to attach the roof sheet. Use rafter ties to connect the rafters to the joists. Use 1 1/2″ construction bolts to attach the rafters.

Use 1/2″ plywood for the roof of the shed. Cut the sheets to size and place them on top of the shed. Leave no gaps between the sheets and then insert 1 5/8″ screws every 8 along the rafters so they can be securely fastened.

Attach the 1×8 boards to the sides of the shed. Line up the edges and score and hammer in 2″ nails.
