Sherwin Williams Vs Benjamin Moore Paint
The best paint between Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore is Benjamin Moore, with a small gap. When it comes to paint quality, durability, coverage and ease of use, Benjamin Moore’s paints have the upper hand. Their interior paint product, Regal Select, is hands down the best interior paint on the market. Likewise, outdoor acrylic paint products, such as Benjamin Moore’s Aura, are expensive, but worth the money.

That said, you really can’t go wrong with Sherwin Williams or Ben Moore. From the point of view of pure paint quality, they are almost equal. As a result, they all come with inferior, better and premium paint lines at different prices.
All in all, Benjamin Moore or Sherwin’s paint is in a league of its own. Certainly in comparison with the paint brands of Behr, Valspar or PPG.
Among professional painters, it’s like comparing Coca-Cola to Pepsi. Some people just prefer the taste of Pepsi over Coke and vice versa. Both paint brands produce high quality paints, but some painters swear by one or the other.

But Benjamin Moore has one major weakness compared to Sherwin-Williams’ paint. Before we dive in, let’s talk about the price difference between Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams paints.
When comparing similar products, Benjamin Moore costs slightly more than Sherwin Williams interior paints. As mentioned, both companies offer different paint collections for interior and exterior, such as Cashmere, Emerald or Duration. Overall, Sherwin Williams’ average paint price per gallon is $53, while Benjamin Moore’s is $57.
Sherwin-Williams also offers Superpaint, which experts believe is the best balance of price and quality in any paint. For reference, Superpaint sells to consumers for about $48 a gallon. It’s about $30 cheaper than Sherwin-Williams’ premium jadeite collection.
In general, higher quality paints tend to be better value for money, but up to a point. Personally, I’m not a big fan of super premium paints like Sherwin’s Emerald or Benjamin Moore’s Aura. Both higher quality premium paint lines are very expensive at nearly $70 a gallon.

Finally, it is worth noting that paint prices are rising as a result of the recent paint shortage. The pandemic and severe weather have limited paint production facilities. Paint prices even rose by 10.6% in 2021 and could rise even more in 2022. However, if you’re waiting for paint, you may want to pull the trigger sooner because of shortages.

This is Benjamin Moore’s glaring weakness compared to Sherwin Williams. Depending on where your home is located, it can be difficult to find a store that sells Benjamin Moore paint. That’s because Benjamin Moore distributes his paint through independent retailers such as Ace Hardware and JCLight hardware stores. Compare that to Sherwin-Williams, who already owns and operates its own storefronts.
Even if you have a Benjamin Moore paint store near you, I’ve found that several independent retailers have different product lines. Some of JCLight’s flat white ceiling paint lines, for example, you won’t find on Ace Hardware.
Behr Paint Vs. Sherwin Williams: Which One Is Better?
That alone could be the deciding factor when it comes to choosing between Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore. As a paint contractor, if I had to drive an extra 15 minutes to the Benjamin Moore dealer instead of Sherwin’s store, I would choose Sherwin. When comparing these two paint brands, it really comes that close.
Whether you are a painter or a homeowner, you should consider being near a paint store. When purchasing paint for a painting job, you may need to make several trips to the store to replenish or otherwise. If you’re combining old paint years later, you’ll no doubt thank yourself for choosing a store near you.

Both Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore have a huge choice of paint colors. So there is no clear winner when it comes to color. You really can’t go wrong as both companies are able to color match each other’s fan covers.
The 10 Best Paint Colours To Create Calm And Reduce Stress
While every paint company offers color advice, Sherwin-Williams is free, while Benjamin Moore’s color advice costs an average of $40-80. Also, not all Benjamin Moore retailers offer this service. You can book a Sherwin-Williams design consultation online here. Unfortunately, a Benjamin Moore consultation can only be booked by contacting your local retailer.
Plus, Sherwin Williams and Benjamin Moore share recipes so they can match each other’s colors if needed. However, I recommend keeping the color selection the same as the retailer’s as much as possible to reduce the risk of color mismatches.
Paint gloss is the sheen or sheen of paint after it has dried. In many ways, the gloss of the paint you choose is just as important as the color. It gets tricky when you compare Sherwin Williams to Benjamin Moore. Each paint manufacturer has a different gloss name. To complicate matters, some individual paint lines have their own specific gloss ratings.
To make choosing a gloss easy, contact your local paint store for advice. For interiors we recommend flat ceilings; rugs or eggshells for walls; and satin or semi-gloss finishes. For the exterior, we recommend a flat, matte or satin finish for siding; semi-gloss or glossy for trims, doors and windows.
Paint Colour Review: Benjamin Moore Wrought Iron And Cheating Heart
Benjamin Moore’s best paint product is Regal Select. In fact, more than 50% of professional painters choose Regal Select as their favorite interior paint. This is a high quality 100% acrylic latex paint that simply ticks all the boxes. So you can’t beat Regal in terms of coverage, thickness and ease of use. It is also known for its durability and cleanability.
Like most wall paints, it requires two coats, but the color pigment retention is superior to other paints in its class. Regal is more expensive at $50 to $60 a gallon, but for the most part, it’s worth every penny. However, Regal outperformed both at $10 to $20 less per gallon than Sherwin’s comparable cashmere line. Benjamin Moore’s Regal is also better than Sherwin’s Superpaint, but Regal is $10-20 more per gallon.
Likewise, Regal Select is a mildew resistant house paint with a low detergent. This makes it safer to use indoors during and after painting is done, and reduces paint fumes.
If you’re looking for VOC-free or VOC-free interior paint, consider Benjamin Moore’s Aura paints. It’s $15 to $25 more than Aura on Regal Select, but it’s a thicker paint that covers the color better.

Last but not least, both Aura and Regal Select are made with Benjamin Moore’s Gennex Color technology, and both paints retain more vibrant colors that last longer. This innovative technology also reduces VOCs in Regal Select and Aura coatings.
You can see Ben By Benjamin Moore as the younger brother of Regal Select. As you can imagine, Ben is $20 less per gallon than the Regal Select. However, it outperforms other entry-level interior paints from Sherwin Williams, such as A-100.
The main difference is that Regal Select offers better coverage and thickness compared to Ben. This is due to the higher solids content in the paint formulation. The drying time for Ben is also two hours, while the drying time for Regal is one hour.
Second, the Regal Select has a wider range of finishes than the Ben. In fact, Ben is only available in flat, eggshell, and semi-gloss, while Regal includes all three plus matte and pearl finishes.

But here is a little known fact about the Benjamin Moore Interior Paint Ben. Not only is it self-replenishing, Ben’s eggshell and flat sheen is also nearly zero VOC. That’s why we still like to use Ben from Benjamin Moore for interior painting projects. Plus, Ben is nearly $30 cheaper than Sherwin Williams’ no-VOC Harmony brand.
It is a solid entry level paint that performs well and is more environmentally friendly. Anyway, our professional painting team considers this a huge win.
Another highlight for Benjamin Moore is the line of advanced water-soluble alkyd interior paints. Advance is one of the best coatings on the market for upholstery, doors, windows and door frames. It outperforms Sherwin Williams Proclassic Decorative Paint in almost every way and remains low VOC even after staining. Not to mention, it’s cheaper at $55 a gallon than the Proclassic’s $70 a gallon.
