In this color range, I have a lot of “all gray” covers because there are more opportunities to paint gray than there are Starbucks locations (okay, maybe not really, but you get the point).

I’m a girl who likes to have options – who wants to feel stuck or blocked? But even I can get overwhelmed sometimes when it’s too much.
Choosing the color gray tends to feel that way for many people because there are so many options – and some only have very subtle differences between them. With so many medium and light shades to choose from, I spent some time focusing on shades like Light French Gray or Stonington Grey.
After covering a few of these types of gray, I’m happy to break out of the “mold” I’ve created and go a little darker with Sherwin Williams Gauntlet Gray.
All warm and thin colors have yellow, cream (with yellow), orange, red or brown in their base. Gauntlet Gray gets its heat from a little brown at its base.

It is an inviting color that gives a comfortable, cozy look to the interior, even if it is not as deep as you would expect from black paint colors. Gauntlet Gray is a rich and gorgeous color that adds depth and sophistication.
Outdoors, Gauntlet Gray will see more of its warmth and softness due to warm natural lighting.
Unfortunately, Benjamin Moore does not have a color exactly like this beautiful tone, because differences in the color mixing process naturally produce differences in temperature, depth and undertones.

Gauntlet Gray is a warm color. Those looking for a traditional gray will probably find that the color is not as neutral as they are looking for. It won’t look too hot, but it will help warm a cool room.
This is a gorgeous color that can really be used anywhere. I say, however, that with the condition that there is one

Gauntlet Gray is a beautiful neutral shade that looks stunning in modern, traditional, contemporary, farmhouse and transitional home styles.
Our Review Of Sherwin Williams’ Urbane Bronze
It has a very soft purple color. Many people do not like purple tones and shy away from amazing colors like Benjamin Moore Pale Oak for this reason. If you’re one of those people, I strongly encourage you to give Gauntlet Gray a look, because the purple undertones are so soft that they’re often not even noticeable.
One thing to remember about undertones is that colors with soft undertones tend to pick up other undertones because they don’t really commit to an undertone. In the case of Gauntlet Grey, it can sometimes get a hint of green.

Exposure to natural light changes throughout the day as the sun moves across the sky. Thanks to the changing natural light, don’t expect a color to be the same in two different areas or at different times of the day (even sometimes in different parts of the same room!).

I have a secret weapon (well, it’s not that secret, but it’s important) to prevent you from choosing a paint color and completely regretting it when it’s all over your walls. Use color swatches (I like the Samplize peel-and-stick swatch) to see exactly how your lighting and decor will affect how your colors appear.
They are a breeze to remove and set up and won’t damage your walls. But they will prevent headaches and wasted money! Find one by clicking the button below⤵

Gauntlet Gray is a versatile bold shade. Some darker, darker colors can be quite serious. Although Gauntlet Gray is not as versatile as a deep color like Urbane Bronze by Sherwin Williams, it offers a lot of flexibility.

LRV is an abbreviation for “light reflectance value.” Why is this number important? It is a useful and objective way to measure how much light is reflected (rather than absorbed) by a given shade. In other words, it is a reliable indicator of how light or dark a shade will appear in your home.
LRV ranges from 0 – 100. A color with an LRV of 0 is pure black. At the opposite end of the spectrum, an LRV of 100 is the brightest white you can imagine.
This LRV value means that SW Gauntlet Gray sits on the light end of the dark end of the paint colors. Some might say it’s on the dark side of the medium saturation range. Either way, this trend is brilliant for adding depth – especially in well-lit rooms.

A true medium, the Dovetail’s LRV at 26 makes it quite a bit lighter than the Gray Gauntlet. Although they are both beautiful warm grays, dovetail is a bit more versatile for spaces with poor natural light.

Sherwin Williams Grizzle Gray (SW 7068) comes in slightly darker than Gauntlet Grey, with an LRV of 13. Besides being darker, it’s also cool and lacks the brown undertones of today’s highlight shades.
Sherwin Williams Iron Ore (SW 7069) has an impressive LRV of 6 (remember, 0 is darkest!), making it appear dark and heavily used. Like Gauntlet Grey, it has a subtle softness and warmth that sets it apart from true black. You can almost use the two colors interchangeably.
