Shortly after buying our house, we painted our living room and dining room the same dark gray color, Sherwin Williams Keystone Gray. While I love the rich gray in our dining room, it’s too dark for our living room where there is less natural light. So after a few years of trying to live with it (and failing…) I decided to redo a lighter color for myself. I narrowed it down to four finalists,

And finally choose Sherwin Williams Anne Gray. I’m very happy with my color choice and I get a lot of questions when I share pictures of my living room, so I thought I’d share what I like and how it compares to others. to share What is gray? I prefer going gray over beige or gray as they are the perfect shade of Gold – the beige tones add a bit of warmth, while the coolness of the gray tones keeps the color from looking dull and grey. Annev Gray is a neutral gray that has depth and richness without being too dark, which is what I was looking for when choosing colors for our living room. Here’s a picture of it at our place – it shows that Anew Gray can look different depending on the light it receives:

If you look closely at the painted area closest to the floor, you’ll see some purple paint – here it gets the most light from the window opposite the fireplace, and it’s a cool light because the window faces north. It looks like real gray on many walls and around most of the rest of the room. You can also see that in dark areas, like to the right of my black cabinet, the colors appear darker and richer.

Looking at the same spot the next day, you can see that the color at the top of the wall still looks different from the bottom, but the overall color looks less gray because there are fewer northern lights out today:

Apart from the purple tint you see in a small area of our room with direct northern light (which would appear grayish), I don’t see any obvious contrasts with Annev Gray in normal light – it’s just a good no. – Medium warm to light, not dark-dark.

It’s always nice to look back and see how far you’ve come – sometimes changes are so slow and gradual over time that you don’t realize the impact until you go back to the beginning and see where . start off!

I painted Anne Gray in Sherwin Williams Duration Home Interior Latex paint. I use flat or matte paint (almost flat but better) for all the walls in our house because it hides wall imperfections better than glossy paint and is easy to treat. Most paint shops recommend using a squeegee for walls because the high shine makes it easier to clean the walls from fingerprints, dirt, etc. But what I’ve noticed is that when you brush something off the egg wall, it usually gives off a glow from the area you’re brushing, making it obvious that you’re brushing the area. Plus, if you want to add color year-round, shellac shoes are more obvious than flat or matte ones.

The trim in our living room is painted Benjamin Moore Cloud White with Satin. There are many whites that will work well with Anne Grey, but my personal favorite is to use white when you have warm wall colors. If you’re thinking about using Anew Gray in your home, you’re probably debating between it and a few other similar grays, so I thought I’d do a comparison between Anew Gray and other gray areas that People usually decide to do it. average (according to Google). To give you a real comparison, I bought samples of all six colors from Samplize, which sells 12″ x 12″ colored squares with adhesive tape. Here are all six of them on our Annev Gray wall:

The Best Gray Paints For Your Home

These are true color paints (not computer generated colors like the color strips you pick up at the paint store) so they give you the true true color without the light problem of getting a paint bottle. You can find the Sampleize sample at Anew Grey.

Whenever you decide on a color, you should try it in your space. It doesn’t matter if you have it in another room of your house where it looks great, if you’ve seen it in a friend’s house where it looks like the perfect color, or if that person tells you that a color “always ” works. . The light each room receives is unique and can affect the color scheme in that space.

Not only should you test the spots in the room you are painting, but you should move them around the room and look at them at different times of the day. Sample patterns are great because they stick to the wall for templates, but you can also drag and trace them to other parts of the room. So you can try them on your own wallpaper:

And then move them to the dark wall to see how they look in two parts of the room.

Revere Pewter Color Palette

A word of caution about the grays I’m sharing: like Anne Grey, other colors in the same family tend to show red in the right light, especially in rooms that get a lot of northern light (when in many rooms, especially in the south, you will not see purple colors). If you find purple that you don’t like when painted on the wall, try colors that have more beige/yellow in them.

Sherwin Williams Amazing Gray (SV 7044) is SUPER similar to Anev Gray – it’s really hard to tell where one color starts and the other in my comparison of the two. Both have LRV 47, so it has about the same “brightness”, but Amazing Gray only has a few more black drops, so it’s always a bit dark. Amazing Gray is also greener than Anew Grey. Sherwin Williams Versatile Gray (SV 6072) is another color similar to Anew Gray, but with an LRV of 48 only slightly lighter. Versatile Gray is more red than Amazing Gray and Anew Grey. You can get the Samplize model in Versatile Gray.

Sherwin Williams See Good Gray (SV 7029) sits right next to Annev Gray on the color bar. They are very similar in tone, but Pom Zoo Gray is slightly lighter with an LRV of 60. It’s a good choice if you like the Anev Gray color but still want something lighter and brighter. You can get the approved Gray Samplize model.
